    Hello!

Our popular Synchron Strings Pro library can now easily be used with Dorico 3.5 (and higher). The latest version of the "VSL for Dorcio" installer comes with Dorico Expression Maps and Playback Templates for this library.

  • The new Dorico Xmaps are great! Thank you!

I have an articulation question. There are two Synchron Player choices for staccato: bold and agile . If I put staccato dots on notes, they play back with bold . How do I specify agile playback in Dorico?

  • Hi Leigh!

You can always build custom Playing Techniques if you wish to implement them into your scores.

TUTORIAL Dorico 3.5 & VSL SY Special Edition. Templates. VIDEO

  • Dorico playback template and expression maps just released for Synchron Strings Pro. Wonderful!!

In the expression maps there is combinations articulations for technique + dynamic. They do not work though. Example is staccato + fff. Apply the staccato marking on a note and also marking the note as fff dynamic does not trigger the key changes in that mapped staccato + fff.. For instance on cello the staccato + fff has key changes C0, D5 and D#5. The D#5 should trigger the synchron player Staccato ff articulation but it does not. It triggers the D5 Staccato articulation. Even if I removed the D5 from that dorico articulation map it still triggers the D5 Staccato. Investigation further it seems as the Dorico does not ever trigger the staccato + fff articulation. It is triggering the staccato articulation (without the fff).

Is it at all possible to trigger this staccato + fff (which maps to Staccato ff in synchron) articulation?

    If so, how?.

If not, then why was it provided?

Unfortunately the demo project provided only has some simple soft attach and soft release example in it. I would think the demo project would have instances of all articulations provided in the expression map. That would be really useful.

  • Hello 152251!

As far as I know, dynamic marks such as ppp, pp, p, mp, mf, f, ff and fff cannnot trigger playback techniques. The entries in the expression maps have been made in case this gets updated in a future Dorico version. Currently these entries have no effect.

    Best regards,
    Andi
