  • Logic articulation set with Vienna Ensemble Pro

    Hi everyone,

I am planning to move my current Cubase project to Logic and I wonder how to correctly handle articulation changes.
In Cubase I have a single VE Pro plugin, connected to a unique VE Pro server instance hosting about 70 VSL instruments.
Could you please tell me how should I configure Logic to use that single server instance?

Many of VSL articulations require more than just three output parameters and if I have well understood, the only way to circumvent that Logic limitation is by using a Scripter plugin on every midi track, is that correct?

I have tried the VSL AU3 supplied templates but they support only 8 ports per server instance and the solo/mute buttons of the tracks are linked, I can’t mute/solo a single track only :(
I have also tried the old VSL multi-instruments template and that seems to support more than 8 ports and the solo/mute buttons on the tracks are not linked, but I lost the possibility to insert MIDI FX plugin into them because their channel strips don’t permit plugin attachment.

I am a bit confused and sorry if that has already been questioned before.

    Hope you can help :)

  • Hi Lupine

Sorry for the late reply..I've only use seen your post!

If your looking to use Logic you may want to check out Babylone Waves as there Art-Conductor software does exactly what you want it to...load an instrument into 1 logic track and change to any articulation you want to

They've mapped almost all the VSL stuff...and it works brilliantly..in Ensemble or hosted in Logic...and you can change the articulation on notes to..if you use the score editor.

    Check them out here

    I hope that helps mate

    Kindest

Don't use those, they are deprecated and problematic.  The reason you were able to solo and mute those was because they were routing through the environment as I just described, so they were actually midi mute and midi solo that you were doing.   You still could have used MIDIFX, but you have to put the midiFX all globally on the single VePro instrument channel...which means each MIDIFX is effecting all the midi funneling through it, which is usually too difficult, I agree.

I have some improved AU3 templates and instructions for how to easily create your own AU3 template, using both of the approaches listed above.  You can find them and related comments about how it all works here:
