While creating my own expression maps for Dorico, I'm asking myself if I should leave Legato Bold and Agile, and Staccato Bold and Agile, as separate techniques, or part of a single speed-controlled technique.
In theory, "bold" should be for slower passages, and "agile" for faster ones. But can they be useful even if left separate? Are there situations where one could want to use a bold staccato in faster passages, or an agile legato in slower ones?

I think I may have found a solution that may work with me.
In Dorico, I will create three modifier techniques: bold, agile, auto.
For short notes, I will have the following cases:
- Staccatissimo --> Staccato Short Bold
- Staccatissimo + bold --> Staccato Short Bold
- Staccatissimo + agile --> Staccato Short Agile
- Staccatissimo + auto + Lenght=Short --> Staccato Short Agile
- Staccatissmo + auto + Lenght=Longer --> Staccato Short Bold
The same will happen with Staccato and Spiccato. Depending on the modifier technique I will add in the score, one of the articulations will be selected in the player. The base technique will select the Bold version.
With legato, something similar will happen. But I will also have the "auto-speed" patch already created by VSL as an option.
Other modifier techniques (Soft and Release) will select the attack and release modes.
