I'm having a hard time choosing which recording I am going to release. I am seeking opinions as to which singer you like better. I love both interpretations equally, which is why I am having a hard time deciding!

Thanks in advance for offering your opinion...

    Best,

    Jerry

  • I remixed the vocal part to better balance the wide dynamic range my singer has...

  • Hi Jerry, it is a bit quite here at the forum, I know.
I listened to the first versions a while ago. And as far as I can remember, I listened that versions on my phone. Yesterday I listened on my computer with the monitors to the remix, then just to Kira.
What I heard was a beautiful voice, beautiful set in front of the string quartet, really lovely. And the song itself is beautiful too.
Now I listened to both versions and I have a slight preference for Kira, but that is probably just a matter of personal taste.

I can imagine, that this composition is something special for you, because of the occasion, the marriage of your daughter (I didn't find it anymore in the text, but I thought, you wrote that in the forum, or am I wrong?)

Thanks for your opinion MMKA (I don't think that's your name, but it's the best I can do).  Kira's voice is definitely lovely, there's a tenderness and warmth that seems right for the song.  Yes, I wrote it for my daughter's wedding party, but, like most everyone else in the world, we have to face the disappointment of cancelling the party due to COVID.  But one day we hope to have it.  In the meanwhile she loves the song, so I am happy about that.

I appreciate that you took the time to listen and respond.  I'm glad you liked the piece.

    Best,

    Jerry

  • Gerry,

I liked the opening motif A LOT and I liked the melody of the first for lines. You are an excellent composer. As you asked me to make a choice, I would choose the vocalist, Kiri. I did note that you commented on the warmth and tenderness of her voice. I would agree.

  • this is really a wonderfull composition and arrangment!

Both singers are great. If I had to choose I would probably pick Kira.

    Best regards

  • Hi Jerry,

Cannot pick a favorite. This is not likely to work, but I thought - maybe give one verse for the 1st singer, and then the next one to the other one? Beautiful harmony in this piece, I must say.

    All the best,

    Crusoe.

Thanks Crusoe for taking a listen.

I did resolve the dilemma.  I am releasing a single with Abbie singing the song and on my next CD release I will include Kira's interpretation on the album.

    Best,

  • Hi Jerry,

I completely agree with Stefan Telser: this is an excellent composition and sung by a most wonderful voice. The sober but very functional arrangement makes it perfect. What strikes me most is the text-music feel: the music underlines the textual content and gives it some more emotion (e.g. on the word 'bitterness' the falling melody).

Many congrats, I really enjoyed the song.
