  • Some suggestions about the future Saxophones 2.

    Hello.

I want to write here my suggestions about sax vol 2. Perhaps you at VSL can consider them [[:)]]

    - I think some people play programs with wind controller like the WX5 Yamaha. It can be a good idea to make some combinations patchs that allow us to switch between long notes and staccatto (for exemple), with another method that the keyboard notes: perhaps a midi foot controller?? I don't know if it's possible of course, but it can be really amazing to play live in this way.
    - recording growls programs in different variations, from lower register to altissimo (and with long notes-growl notes combinations patchs).
    - recording special sounds like a saxist can produce in jazz or modern styles: alternates fingerings, multiples notes (chords of two or three notes), runs in altissimo, subtones patchs, phrases...
    - make more looped patches.
    - recording alto and baryton saxes [[[[;)]]]] [[[[;)]]]] [[[[;)]]]]

Of course now I know that you work hard at VSL, but what do you think about these ideas? Ask is for users too of course! [[:)]]

  • Should be easy enough to at least do the foot pedal thing instead of the keyboard switches. you can probably do it yourself in the instrument editor... just reassign those switches? I havent tried it myself but it sounds fairly striahtforward.

  • Yes I think it's possible you're right

  • And now the past is beginning to catch up.
A single foot controller wouldn't neccessarily work, because if you were using more than two articulations, the switch would follow a chain so to speak.
A few years ago i worked with a guitarist who used a midi box to get some pretty weird stuff out of his axe. (midi guitar on stage. cosmic, man)
He wanted to switch between 4 or 5 instrument banks during a performance, so he built a set of footswitches on a board. (six in total.)
Each one cancelled the one before. It was built by a friend of ours, who was gifted in electronic stuff.
It worked, and i'm wondering if a similar setup would give not only wind controller players, but keyboard inputters, a new way of doing things.
Another additional plus would be an improvement in dancing ability!

Is there anyone using anything like this?

    Regards,

    Alex.

  • Good Idea!!!

I just tried something with my wx5 and Halion. Two keys on the controller allow program changes. So if I load three or four programs in Halion I can switch the one to the other. It work but it's hard to play [:O]ops: I must practice!! But there is a problem: latency during laoding the patches, and it's not work with performance tool.

So I've got another idea: with a Behringer Bf1010 midi foot controller, which has got 10 foot switches.
In Ableton Live we can configure (for example) perf leg on track 1, staccato on the 2, slap on the 3... And after that, we can assign switch 1 to track mute 1 etc... For playing, if track 1 is unmuted, and 2, 3, 4 are muted, if I play only perf leg is played. If I push switch 1 and switch 2 with my foot: track 1 is muted and track 2 is unmuted, so I play stacatto patch!!! Etc.....
And no load latency!!! But there is two problems:

-you have to play sat on a chair!!! [:O]ops:
-And if you have to push switch 1 and 4 in the same time: you must use your two foots!!! [:'(]

But it's an idea to devellop!

    What do you think about??

    Best, Jean

  • Jean,
    Even better.
With practise this would be very useful indeed. I've just had a look at the specs on the website, and i think it's possible to run a wind controller in, then out (Midi in and out on the back).
And at just over 200 Euros not a bad price either.
On an even better front it has two additional expression pedals which i assume would be assignable.
    Thanks for the information!

    Regards,

    Alex.
The correct name for the controller is: Behringer FCB1010.

  • Yeah it's a good price!!
And I just read that you can directly changes programs: another way to switch Vsl patchs. We can also bypass or active effects like delay, filters... expression pedal can be assigned to song tempo, or Dry/wet effect, or wahwah, or cutoff!! Lot of potential.

    Here are the specs http://www.behringerdownload.de/FCB1010/FCB1010_SPECS_Rev_C.pdf">http://www.behringerdownload.de/FCB1010/FCB1010_SPECS_Rev_C.pdf

And here the manual (hard to understand [:'(] )
