When I first bought VSL I naively expected that it would take over ALL instrumental duties in my studio. A combination of limited processing power and absence of some areas of instrumentation made me realise, actually VSL for me was a complete overhaul of a large part of my setup, rather than a complete replacement. I still use hardware modules for sax sections for bigband tracks, and my trusty Roland piano, as well as drums and stuff from other libraries.
i was wondering what other products all you esteemed musicians like to use to complement the excellence of VSL. I know a lot will depend on the styles that you do.
I bought opus 1/2 specifically for a greater realism in my string sounds, being in the middle of a project recording Karl Jenkins "Songs of Sanctuary" and got the rest of the orchestra as a bonus. Generally most of my work is pop/rock, music theatre backings, and jazz and bigband stuff. I want now to branch out more into hard-core synth orchestra stuff now I have the tools to achieve the necessary realism.
