  • Current Situation with Motu Please

    Hi,

I am using DP4.6 and Mach 5 and am interested in getting vsl.

Can someone tell me what the current situation is with VSL and Motu? I know they have just realeased the Symphonic instrument so they are probably not so desperate to get vsl to work with M5 now...

But if i were to get one of the VSL packs how much would convert? And is user remapping an option- realistically?

Also how much do the vsl editions rely on the performance tool? Do all editions use/need it?

Has vsl considered 'down-mapping' some of the editions with less articulations/ performance options (but still using the same quality samples) for use in mach5?

Sorry - i just can't fiind any up-to-date info on this...

    thanks!

  • Well, I have done some research and one person I spoke to told me VSL did approach Motu but Motu weren't so interested - I am just reporting what I *heard* please note - NOT AS FACT.

But I think it's safe to say there's no Motu/VSL collaboration imminent so I will have to get Kontakt or Halion for use with DP4.6 .....or else buy a PC for Giga or Logic for EXS.

My question is: Will the Symphonic editions ever be released in Halion or Kontakt formats? And will these formats now be 'safe' for future VSL releases?

    Thanks again...

    Hi Mark,

I totally forgot to answer your post, sorry.

You are right, our situation with MOTU has not really changed, Mach 5 is not supported.

In our experience, there is no such thing as "automatic conversion", sad to say. You will always need to adjust quite a few settings. User remapping - I wouldn´t do it, I have seen the weeks it took us to convert all Horizon Series products (and we know what they are supposed to do...).

The Performance Tool is what sets the Vienna Symphonic Library apart from any other sample library. But you don´t need it for all editions (Vienna Harps, FX Percussion, Mallets and Glass&Stones don´t need it, no transitions sounds necessary with percussive instruments).

Opus 1+2 is a "down-mapped" version of the Pro Edition, so to speak. There are no further plans in this direction for Mach 5.

Hope I have covered your question. Feel free to contact me at p.steinbauer@vsl.co.at anytime.

    All the best,

  • Thanks Paul, it's a shame about Motu - especially as DP4.6 is such a good spec'ed sequencer for film scoring!!?!!

Still, kontakt with Horizon opus bundle+solo strings looks like a (relatively!) cheap way to get VSL-ing on DP [:)]

One more question though... couldn't find any threads on this but...any plans for some VSL choral editions?!

  • Hi,

you will get a very good impression of the possibilities with the Horizon Series with the orchestra you find included with Kontakt 2 (7GB all Vienna Symphonic Library samples). Check these instruments out first and then decide which Horizon Series products you want to use additionally.

And yes, there are plans for choral editions, but no schedules yet.

    Best wishes,

    Paul
