  • SYNCHRON PIANO STEINWAY D

Hi, I use the Steinway D (Full Version) and love sound and playing. Though I still have following question: Is ANYBODY able to play The Surround to Stereo Downmix Presets without producing massive glitches and crackles while playing ? I don't have this problem when I use the Room Mix Presets or Decca Tree Multi-Mic Presets. I of course save all my files on my internal SSD and also have enough RAM (32). Using right pedal and playing lot of keys causes the described problem. In my mixing mode (Cubase) and with increased latency I can use the Surround to Stereo Downmix Presets. I would love to use this also in my live playing ....Thanks in advance for your help! - Detlef

  • I had this with my old computer, but as you say only with a ton of notes.  Now I can confirm a better setup doesn't have any issues.  I think basically this is what the Room Mix channel is designed for, and if you don't like that channel (I don't) then it's either time for more CPU or more latency.

The other thing that might work is killing a couple of channels that you don't favour and making up the overall balance with whatever similar channels are still active.

  • Thanks for your answer- sounds that I need a new and better Mac....🥺

  • Hi Detlef,

Another option is to increase the PRELOAD size in Preferences => Database manually, this will give your drive a bit more headroom (but will also increase the loading time).

Your audio buffer is of course the essential part here - if you increase it, your CPU performance will be better.

Many pianists also record their performance with a Room-Mix preset and then switch to a more advanced preset for mix-down.

  • Thanks Paul, I will try that. If it does not help, I only will use the surround mix  preset for mix-down.

  • Paul , short feedback: your advice helped a lot. I increased the preload-size to maximum, this solved the problem (almost) completely ! I also noticed, changing the timbre shift - which I liked to do for getting a warmer sound - leads also to glitches, so from now, I only will to this in the mixing process. Thanks a lot for your quick help!

  • Hi Detlef,

Happy to hear that, thanks for the update!
