  • VE Ensemble Pro 7 MAS Plugin Issue.

    Hi,

I've been able to reproduce, and have MOTU reproduce, and another Digtital Performer user reproduce the folling issue:

My system is a 2013 MacPro running Mojave with a PC Slave. I'm running VEP 7 (not the current update)

I am reproducing the issue using the VEP MAS plug in a 16 instance, 16 channel template not actually connected to VEP instruments locally and on the slave. Beachballs are frequently appearing when I toggle from one channel to the next. Reordering midi or audio tracks induces a hang with a beachball. Video demo here: https://cdn-data.motu.com/django_prod/techlink-attachments/152540/IMG_0505.mov

Here are some video demonstrations that shows how using the VEP MAS plug in a 16 instance, 16 channel template causes sluggishness and a beach ball when moving an audio track. The other video shows how using Kontakt instances (same configuration) does not cause this issue.

    Vienna MAS.mov:

Perhaps it's bad with VEP MAS instead of AU because of the number of auxiliary audio outputs and/or MIDI ports that VEP MAS exposes.

With AU version of VEP, the issue has improved greatly, no beach balls. Would love to have the multi-port feature that the MAS version offers but it seems like I need to use the AU version for now.

Is this addressed in the latest update?

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • Motu has also confirmed with us here, that with MAS VEP in our big orch template, when attempting to comp audio files, using 'show takes' on even two tracks with only 2-3 takes each can take 3 minutes to open. Removing all our 12 VEP instnaces from session, they open immediately. Sorta weird. But this does correspond to your beachball issue Dave, which we too, have confirmed.

I am sure Paul and the vundervar VEP peeps can address this.

  • How many MIDI ports have you got in the VEP plugin settings? Is the issue improved with a single MIDI port?

  • Hey there Martin. THank you for chiming in. We here, use 8 ports per plug, (and require a minimum on mnay of those of 6) Have not tested with just one.

  • Hi Martin,

As for me, my testing involed only one port.  My template involved anywhere from 2-8 ports per instance.  My new template now uses the AU version of VEP and the issue has dissapeared.  Would much rather have the multi-port feature obviously.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • Appreaciate the confirmation, Labman.  I'm guesiing the recent update doesn't address this.

We are mid contract Dave, so cant yet update the plug. Will do when done!

  • Many thanks.  I've updated to the recent version, no change with issue.

    Best,

    D

  • I appreciate your report Dave! Thank you. Shall wait to update then.

  • Any luck hunting this down Martin? It is sorta killing us. Thank you  !

  • Hi guys,

Can you please tell us which version of VE Pro 7 you are using, exactly?

Also: How many VEP plug-ins with how many outputs each?

Is there any miminal reproduction scenario that we can set up here?

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • I have managed to reproduce the issue and have isolated it to a part internal to DP. I've notified the DP developers about this, and hopefully it will be corrected soon!

  • Hi,

I can also confirm that I am having the same issue as others. I am running 9 Instances of VEP7 split over two PC Slave Machines, with about 190+ Stereo Outputs coming back into DP.

The time it takes to add a Midi or Audio track is about 20 secs, and moving tracks and folders also takes about the same time. As soon as I disconnect the VEP7 instances, DP works as normal.

I have a tech support running with MOTU and glad to see others have raised this too. I thought it might be something to do with my template or the number of outputs I need to run it.

So pleased to read that VSL and MOTU are communicating with each other to help resolve this.

  • Indeed! Thanks everyone.

  • Hi,

Martin Saleteg (MS) heard back from the DP team. This issue should be fixed with the next DP Update (10.12), expected in the next few months.

  • Hi

I too can confirm that I have just had an email from MOTU, to confirm they have fixed the bug and it will be in the next release.

Thank you to everyone, and especially to VSL and MOTU.

  • Great news!  Good to know I wasn't the only one experiencing this issue.  Still, I'm amazed that I was the first one to report it (or so it appears).  Perhaps my template or use of the plug is unordinary.  Regardless, happy!

  • Hello,

I too am having problems Problems.

With Plugins. It seems to do with Ilok stuff... See when I updated Vienna Instruments software, 6 and 7 and added Synchron Player, I get Beach ball on loading all my old TV film projects with 6 Pro and 7!! IT loads sometimes, but other times crashes. It happens on my empty templates too. My templates have 4 instances each having 16 midi. Woodwinds, Brass, Strings, Percussion.  It seems to crash when i have all four or more instances loaded. I also noticed the License error in combination. It is like the USB ports on mac is over worked, and ilok looses sync. Then it crashes. When you add Audio tracks with MAS it does it too. I can replicate it too. So you are not crazy at all. Its becoming frustrating now. I love my vienna stuff and built my studio setups around it. Its a resource problem! I think programmers are pushing the limits.

I should make a video too. Also have it with MOTU DP 10.5. Getting rally bad when you can't load a past project for Director without hrs of crashes and cant add multiple audio tracks anymore. Also data corruption in Instruments Pro and ensemble Pro project files. Random values in Pitch. I am sure they will sort it out. Vienna does good when they see the issues.

    Kind Regards

    B
