  • Vienna Instruments Advanced window settings for Sibelius

    Hi

It's been quite a while since I used my VSL, and now with Sibelius Ultimate and newest VSL software, I am unsure as to what settings to adjust for working with Sibelius. I remember coming across some advice a few years ago, but can't find it again, and perhaps the advice may have changed with the new versions.

Such things as Vel.XF and Release tickboxes and which sliders operate for functions in Sibelius....

I am having problems with playback, such as diminuendos not happening and unsubtle dynamics compared to what is in the score. I am using VSL House Styles and am using Ensemble Strings as before.

Hopefully this is all straightforward to correct.

    Regards

    Phil

  • Hello Phil!

I strongly recommend using the VI presets that we prepared for Sibelius. These presets can be found in the Vienna Instruments player under PRESET/Sibelius. With these presets loaded it's not necessary to make any adjustments. Our Sibelius Integration tutorial may be of further help.

  • Hi Andi

I have been using VI PRESETS for Sibelius. I have made sure I am using the VSL House Styles by importing them. However some things aren't happening as expected, in particular a two bar diminuendo for Violins from Forte to ppp. The last note which is not slurred to the previous note suddenly get louder, even though it is marked ppp.

    Thanks

    Phil

  • Hello Phil!

I can only guess. Maybe you have live velocity values for some notes that contradict your dynamic markings.

    Best,
    Andi

  • Hi Phil.

This sometimes happens to me to...and has proved to be an easy fix really..(and hopefully it will work for you too)

Go to the bar that the diminuendo isnt responding...and simply delete all the expression text in that bar....hairpins....expression text..PPP etc...everything.

Then simply input it in again!.

I know..stupid isnt it...but i think sometimes the midi in Sibelius gets a bit cluttered (especially if you've cut and pasted bars..or input the date by pasting it from a bar with a different time sig, to a new bar in a new time sig)

I hope that helps mate..and makes sense!..as it usually works (sib Ultimate 2020.3) for me. as a side note...its got a lot better in this regard now compared to past versions.

    I hope that helps mate.

    Kindest Regards

    Paul
