Expression maps; Score Editor with Cubase 10.5,...or else?

Hi,

As Cubase 10.5 on Mac doesn't work well, may I ask you :

- Is Cubase 10.5 working well under Win 10 ? For midi tracks each instrument on one midi track is edited with the Score Editor, then I add articulations with the expression map made for the instrument. So the question is more: is Cubase 10.5 with the Score Editor and the expression map working well?

- Are there other DAWs allowing the same type of edition (score editor + expression maps or equivalent) ?

Hello Edmond!

Cubase Expression Maps are probably easier to use with the Key Editor than with the Score Editor. Nevertheless it's possible with the Score Editor as well. The usage with Mac and Windows is the same. Are you using the VSL Expression Maps or did you make custom Expression Maps? Can you explain in detail what you have tried and what doesn't work for you? Maybe you want to add some screenshots.

Thanks for helping me so quickly. I use my own Exp. Maps for some of my VSL instruments, there are not complete but enough for me.

I'm using Expression Maps since the beginning (Cubase 5..? ) and it worked fine until maybe Cubase 9.5.

There are big problems with Cubase 10.5, even Cubase 10, and Mac OS since Apple has more or less replaced Open GL by its API Metal. I'll don't speak of that here, just to say v10 and v10.5 are unusable under macOS Mojave.

You tell me There's no difference between Mac and Windows, so I'll install Windows, hoping Cubase I like very much will work.

But let me ask you if there is another DAW that works fine with writing articulations?

I mainly work on Windows computers. So I don't know about the Cubase problems on Mac that you have mentioned.

Most notation programs have their own systems of transforming articluations into keyswitches and MIDI CC commands for virtual instruments. Speaking about DAW software, I know that Logic offers articulation maps, which are comparable to Cubase Expression Maps. Nuendo uses Expression Maps too, but that's just the "brother" of Cubase. There may be other DAW programs too that offer such a system. I don't know.

Good for you! I always used Cubase, in the beginning, it was 'Pro 24' ( ≃ 1985 ) .

The best version, on a Mac, was V 10.0.40 on macOS High Sierra. In this version Melodyne was integrated into Cubase so you had complete control on audio tracks too, as you had on midi ones.
