Synchron player user folder

Hi there,

I just bought a new MacBook Pro 2019 and am resintalling all my softwares.

II was aware of Catalina issues with the eLicenser. And I have had the common problem of not finding the licences, in first place. So I moved all of my VSL licenses to a new key I had bought (in case of problem), it seems like it solved the problem, but I'm waiting to experiment it a bit to be sure I'm not sending back the computer to Apple in case it doesn't work properly on Catalina (FYI, Cubase and Dorico, which use another new dongle key, seem to work fine, so far).

Still, I have an issue: Synchron Player doesn't propose me the customized instruments I made, which are all located on an SSD drive in a User folder (and which is located on the same SSD drive on which are all my samples). Although I showed Synchron Player the path where to find them. Yesterday, after many tries, they appeared, but this morning they won't show again.

I mean: it shows on the right side a User tab, but doesn't display any instruments...

Any idea on how to fix this? Any similar issues with one of you?

Hello Benjamin, 

For the User Preset folder, a certain structure is important (see attached pic), which is created when you save your first user preset on your computer (and only then). 

The best idea is to create a new preset and then copy your own presets into this new preset folder.

I've tried it your way, or what I thought it was.

I wanted my presets to be on the same SSD as my samples, since, being away from home, I just bought a new laptop to be able to work, and I want to use the same SSD when I get back home to be used with my main computer.

The preset folder was automatically created at more or less the proper place, but with many under folders... I attached the screen capture...

Is this normal? 

And what will happen when I will work back on my old computer? I'm afraid he won't be able to find my user folder anymore (as now the path field is changed), I will have to create a new one, following the same process (first moving away the rows of folders and sub-folders, asking Synchron player to create a new user, hoping it will create the same path field, then pasting my presets folders, etc.)?

PS: the attached file is the SSD drive, with sample from Native Instruments, VSL, etc.

In the VSL folder (down) are the two folders with the samples for Vienna Instruments Pro and Vienna Synchron Player. Above is the automatically created user folder...

I also just realized-horror-by creating the folder for the Synchron user presets the process had erased my VIP presets folder, which was on the same folder... I could find it in the bin and copy it straight, and reinstalled it, but I was closed from losing many hours of work...

Hi everyone,

I take the liberty of asking again: how can you build Synchron Player presets on an external drive and be able to find them when you often change the computer you're working with.

I have an iMac home and a MacBook as a mobile solution.

During lockdown I reinstalled the User folder on the drive so that it can be viewed by Synchron player running on my MBP.

But of course now I want to work again on my iMac, it doesn't see the presets, as it was used to another path.

I don't want to create another preset location, because I want the changes I make from time to time to be applied whenever computer I'm working with. I want to share the same hard drive-which work perfectly for the original presets, not for the User one.

What can I do?

Hi, 

You create a folder called "Vienna Synchron Player" that contains exactly the same structure as in the attached pic, and you set the Preset path to the parent folder, in my case: /Users/paul/Documents

It didn't work for me, though, but I ended up with a solution.

To be able to see my templates files, I had to indicate two parents folders adhead, as in attached. Now it works.

Or was it what you meant but what I couldn't get?

I wanted to store my Synchron Player presets on my external sample libraries disk and this is what worked for me:

Path to actual preset folder on the disk: /Volumes/Sample Libraries/VSL/Vienna Synchron Player/VSL/Vienna Synchron Player/Presets

Set this path in the Synchron Player Database window: User Presets Folder: /Volumes/Sample Libraries/VSL/Vienna Synchron Player

This seems bizarrely convoluted and it took me a while to figure it out. I hope this helps someone.

This happened to work, when recovering from an operating system failure. After reinstalling Windows 11 and my DAW and all Vienna instruments, I first attempted to copy the "patches" file, located in the main Vienna directory for my Synchron Steinway-D (full version). This did not work, and the user presets was still empty. I then copied the presets contained in "documents" folder as noted above, and my valuable user preset was able to open again. This saved me countless hours in trying to reproduce the user preset for jazz I worked on, which ended up simply being Ribbon at max and "Main" at 1/3. A good balance of natural piano sound and reverb.
