  • MIRx panning and Sibelius mixer

I am new to VSL and MIRx and have a couple of questions:

    1) Do I set the panning in the Sibelius mixer to 0 (centre) when using MIRx? It is defaulting to a variety of pan positions which do seem to correspond to the MIRx positions but this may be coincidence - it is rather confusing. I cannot find anything in the manual about this.

    2) If I wish to change the panning set-up for a specific instrument in MIRx how can I do that? I notice there are different settings for pan placement but these are quite limited. For example, in the Grooser Staal reverb Violins I and II are panned left and right respectively but I want Violin II to be on the left, near to Violin I. There is no generic ensemble instrument left setting to chose from, only a narrow solo instrument one.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Northfield,

Of course it depends on your workflow and personal preferences, but I strongly suggest to leave your host's panning devices centered when you start working with MIRx - otherwise you will lose the carefully crafted balances between all the instruments. After all, that's what MIRx is all about: A huge collection of presets as starting point for your own creations.

... which is in fact the answer to your second question, too: Apart from a few alternative settings there's no way to change the "burnt-in" pannings offered by MIRx. If you _really_ want to dive into this, then it's most likely time to upgrade to MIR Pro, where all these parameters (and many, many more) can be set freely. :-)

  • Thanks Dietz, very clear. I have looked at MIR Pro and it is certainly tempting.
