  • Synchronized Versions of SE Sound Radically Different

Hey, all. I'm a long time user of all the SE libraries, and after playing around with the Smart Orchestra a bit and being very impressed with the Synchron interface, I upgraded to the Synchronized SE versions. I fully expected these to be simply re-purposed from the original sample material, but have been a little suprised and disappointed that the sound is quite a bit different, and, especially in the case of the Appassionata Strings, inferior. The Synchronized versions, even when choosing the close presets with all reverb off, are less warm and more ambient. I do love the flexibility of the Synchron controls, and the libraries are overall more playable, but I'm curious as to why there are such marked sonic differences. Am I just missing something here, or have the libraries been modified in some way by design?

    Synchron IR

    Did you bypass/remove the IR?

  • yep.  remove the IR on each channel..  it should end up being bone dry.

  • Ah, thank you. I hadn't found that previously, subtly hidden in the main channel parameters as it is. And with a slight tweak of the filter settings, I've got them sounding pretty much identical now. Good to know that option is there as it actually adds a completely different set of flavors. Guess I need to go through the tutorials...

  • Doing this way (drying out the SynchronSE) is it possible to use the Synchronized SE Violins as Vln1 and the VI Violins as Vln2 ?

    Hi Fabio!

Yes, the Solo Violin 2 and solo Cello 2 are lite versions of the Single Instruments Solo Violin 2 and Solo Cello 2.

    Best, Ben

Thank you for your reply, Ben.
I was typing from mobile phone, so not that comfortable for elaborating questions.
The "2" Solos are great additions, though I was referring to Orchestral Strings.
May SY-SE Orchestral Violins in conjunction with VI-SE double as Violin Sections I-II?
In this case I could get rid of the "pitch trick" and avoid keyswitch reassignements.
All that for a mere 47€...

  • That's a good idea. With the IR engaged, it really does take on enough of a timbral difference to function as a separate section. I've been actually using violins from different libraries to accomplish this, but this method would keep things more consistent from a performance standpoint.

  • If you disable the IR and don't use MIR PRO you still have to use the transposition trick if you want to play the same note by the two violin sections.

Do SY_SE and VI_SE even share the same sampleset content, then?

  • Partially. There are newly added instruments, as well as new articulations for some instruments; and the transition samples (legatos) were reworked in order to run with the new Synchron Player.
