Hey, guys.
I’m new to Smart Orchestra so I don’t know if anyone else works this way or not, but I thought I’d share the maps I created today. It's a different approach than the maps they provide and I thought someone else might benefit from them.
The folks at Vienna put a lot of thought into making Vienna Smart Orchestra (VSO) easily playable via key switches, which I very much enjoy. For that case, I don’t use an expression map.
However, I did want to use expression maps when I edit in Cubase to make it easier to change type, articulation and attack for a given instrument throughout a MIDI track.
In my template I have multiple instances of VSO, one each for instrument, i.e. Orchestra, Orchestra + Mallets, Strings, Woodwinds and Brass. There is an expression map for each of these instruments, and a track will use one and only one instrument, e.g. brass, and never be changed. If I want woodwinds, I use a different track / instance of VSO. So, these maps allow me to navigate more easily within that instrument when I’m editing.
They’re bundled up in a single zip file on my site. Hope they make life a bit easier for any Cubase users who like to use Articulation lanes when editing. If you paste the link below into your browser it should automatically download for you.
