  • New peice of mine.... Midnight

Hi. For once I have some music which isent owned by anyone else than me

So for once I can share... its a 1:30 minute demo peice which a producer has asked for. He wanted a sample for some fantasy stuff.

    Anyway, here it is...

Obviously more tweaking could be done.. but isent that always the case?

    Orchestral instruments are all VSL...

  • The opening was very evocative: what instruments did you use?

I personally didn't find the ending as good but that's only my opinion...

  • You've been playing World of Warcraft haven't you ;D

I thought overall that it was very nice. The beginnning is really something. What did you use for the main instrument, is that a chinese violin or something... is it in the First edition!! ;D (Yeah I know... unlikely).

And can you tell me what kind of reverb you've used. The biggest problem I have with logic is finding the right kind of room reverb.

On a side note is anyone else finding that the project SAM brass is better than those of the VSL. I tried a demo of the trombones and I gotta say wow what a sound. If I could get this rult out of my VSL brass I'd be happy (But I'm not!). I'm thinking it may be something to do with the verb I'm using. Also I only have Ensemble brass, (Instead of solo hits like you get with SAM. So If someone can suggest a good reverb setting for logic... I'd be grateful.

Anyways, back to you song. Where did you get hose chorus toones. I so want them. Lovely melody and great dynamic. Just needs tightening up around the end to middle. Nice work.

  • Hi... To answer your question - no I havent been playing WoW, neither have I heard the music. [:)] I have however seenheard Lord of the Rings, which I'm sure the composers of WoW have as well [:D]

The instrument in the begining is not VSL (and not really an orchestral instrument). Its a duduk played in the low register (Rare Instruments 2). The middle section has flutes, viola, cello all from VSL. The choir is EWQLSC.

The "reverb" is the Medium hall in GS3 with some added perspective. It really makes VSL shine. Generally VSL needs good reverb... im really happy about VSL's dry recordings so I can add my own hall. To begin with I wasent too fond of VSL brass either, but now I really love them. I never use SAM anymore for other than FX. The important thing is to get the updated .art files for GS3 so you can use the modwheel for velocity blending with eperformance instruments. If you do this, you simply cant beat VSL's brass.

  • The opening (duduk) reminded me of The Russia House (Jerry Goldsmith).
I liked it better from 40 secs, when flute enters. When the choir enters it gain some LOTR feel, but I like it. Mixing of the choir is pretty good I think.

    Bit short.
