  • reverb phase problems

I'm mixing a piece usung Space Designer and there's a passage where a few particular notes on the PerfLeg Clarinet always send the mix way to the left on Logic's Correlation meter (into the non-mono-compatible zone).

I'm using SD on an effects buss send (post-fade) with no direct signal, but this method or alternatively as an insert doesn't affect the phase it seems.

Narrowing the reverb returns stereo base to 0.7 helps a bit, but then the mix only sounds half as yummy the rest of the time!

Is there a good (simple?!) way to deal with this, all you MixWizards, please?

Are any other convolution reverbs better in this respect?

    Thanks!

  • It's all about the IR in this case, not the engine (hopefully). Doeas another "room" show the same behaviour?

An seemingly oversimplifying answer would be: Do you mix for a distribution channel where mono-summing could happen? If not, simply forget about the phase-issue, as long as you like the sound.

Otherwise, you could try to flip the phase on the instrument in question _completely_ and look if this helps (not very likely, but still possible).

In the end, you could simply automate the stereo-width of the FX bus and narrow it for just those questionable moments.

  • Does the problem persist if you switch the clarinet instrument to mono rather than stereo?

  • thanks for the replies.....I had to move on but I'll check the suggestions out & post whether it helps...thanks again
