  • Routing Sibelius/VEP7 to Pro Tools

I'm new to VEP7, and want to know the right approach for routing Sibelius playback (through VEP7) into Pro Tools, so I can record it as an audio track or bounce to disk.

I already have my instance of instruments being played by Sibelius in the VEP Server, and I understand how to connect to VEP7 from ProTools as an insert in an instrument track--but when doing this, the Server-Instance window doesn't list my Sibelius instance; it only creates a new instance alongside the Sibelius one. I haven't found a way to route audio from the Sibelius instance into the Pro Tools instance, so I'm missing something.

Do I need to use Sibelius as an instrument plug-in in Pro Tools, instead (how I did it with the free Vienna Ensemble)? I'm hoping there's a way to do it so I can route each instrument in my Sibelius instance to an individual track in Pro Tools.

I hope this makes sense! Any insight is greatly appreciated.

  • Hello Eric!

The output of all plugins that I know (including VE Pro) always gets routed back to the host software. So there's no way that I can think of that you trigger VE Pro with Sibelius and get the audio signal routed to Pro Tools.

You could export audio files with Sibelius and VE Pro and load these audio files with Pro Tools. Or you could use Sibelius as a Rewire instrument with Pro Tools.

    Best regards,

  • Ok got it. I was figuring this was the case but hoping otherwise. :-)

I wasn't aware of the option to export audio from Sibelius/VE Pro (only midi)--can you point me in the right direction to do that? Even the right documentation or video with those steps it great.

Lastly, using Sibelius as Rewire, I'm guessing setup is like this:

    1. Open VE Pro server first.
    2. Open Pro Tools and insert Sibelius as a Rewire instrument
    3. Open Sibelius file, connect to sound sets to the VE Pro server, and load the VE Pro instance.
    4. Essentially this sends all Sibelius playback to a single Pro Tools track.
    5. Then I could still use insert VE Pro in other Pro Tools Tracks which would create a second instance alongside the Sibelius instance
    6. Individual tracks in Pro Tools w/VE Pro Inserts can then map to individual tracks in the Pro Tools Instance in VE Pro.

    Have I got this right?

As always, I greatly appreciate the help and insight.

  • Hello Eric!

The Sibelius export audio funtion can be found under File/Export/Audio.

As far as I can see, the points you are listing for using Sibelius as a Rewire instrument with Pro Tools are correct.
