  • SY-ized Dim Strings and Sibelius

    Hi,

I would like to control the players in a same staff when I use SY-ized Dim Strings.

I explain : on the same staff, I want to play all the violins for several notes, and then to play the following notes with the first deck only.

With SY-ized Dim Brass, it is possible to change the number of players in the same staff (using "a4", "3.+4." for example). For SY-ized Dim Strings, you need to create an instrument change...

Is there a way to control the number of players in an other way, without an instrument change ?

    Thanks,

    Best,

    François

  • Hello François!

To change the number of players for SYNCHRON-ized Dimension Strings during a score, you could send keyswitches as MIDI commands. Write the following commands starting with ~ as technique text.
    C0: ~N12,10
    C#0: ~N13,10
    D0: ~N14,10
    D#0: ~N15,10
    E0: ~N16,10
    F0: ~N17,10
    F#0: ~N18,10
    G0: ~N19,10

As an alternative, you could add the keyswitches as notes in voice 2 or 3 to your score and hide the notes.

    Hello Andy,

    Another question 😊

With keyswitches as MIDI commands, is there a way to change the channel in a VE PRO instance ?

On a same taff, for example, I would like to use channel 1 for some measures, then channel 2 for other measures, etc... in order to use several instruments on a same staff.

    Thanks for your help.

Best regards, and merry Christmas !

    François

  • Hello François!

As far as I know, it's not possible to send a MIDI channel change command with Sibelius. I wouldn't recommend it anyway, because this might have unwanted side-effects. For using different instruments on the same staff in Sibelius, I recommend adding Instrument Changes.

    Best regards,
    Andi
