  • Sibelius and VEP, how to change patches in instrument?

    Hi everyone,

I recently try to write a few pieces in Sibelius with VEP instead of playing and arranging them directly in Logic Pro. So I'm someone new with Sibelius soundset. I've consulted some of the videos and built a custom template for Sibelius Playback.

    Here's my question:

I manage to add 16 patches with 16 chanels in VEP which includs Sychron String FX and Appassionata String. When I click playback, in Violins I can hear it is using the Appassionata patch. I can swith to Sychron String patch in the mix window. But how can I asign the patch I want to certain bars. For example, Violin 1 plays short notes with Appassionata patch in bar 1, then in bar 2 it starts to play a cluster. What should I do to achieve? Any suggestion? Much appreciated!

    regards,

    moh

  • Hello moh!

Synchron FX Strings I is easier to use with DAW software than with notation software. There is no Sibelius sound set for this library. Furthermore I couldn't find Synchron FX Strings I, Synchron Strings I or Appassionata Strings registered under your account. If you need more help with these libraries, please let me know which name or e-mail address these products are registered with. Could it be that you mean Epic Orchestra 2.0? How to use this library with Sibelius is explained in the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual.

  • Hello andi,

Yes, I mean patches in Epic Orchestra 2. Thanks for your response, I'll have a look in that tutorial.

PS: The bonus Taiko of EP2 isn't shown up in Sibelius soundset, it seems not have its own ID.

  • Hello moh!

Sound IDs for non pitched percussion instruments don't get displayed on the Sibelius Manual Sound Sets page. The Taiko is included in the program "Synchron Drums" of the "VE Epic Orchestra" sound set.

  • Hi andi!

Thanks for the manual that helps a lots in setting up my template. I also bought the Synchronized SE Vol 1 for more detailed composing and I really enjoy it with the great sound. However I've tried a few days to resolve my first question about patches but still have some confusions.

I'm not native speaker , I try my best to make you understand.

For string section, the instruments "Violin 1", "Violin 2", "Viola "...etc in sibelius, they are automaticly asigned to playback with VE SY SE Vol 1, patches "1st Violin 14"etc . But for some reasons , I want to use the articulation "flautando" in Epic Och 2.0 synchron string 1light (all) for the same instrument. It seems to be asigned to "strings" or "strings reduciton" instrument in sibelius. So is there a way to switch midi channel or I have to add a "strings" section in my piece to play the articulation?

For Brass section, SE Vol 1 has both solo instrument and tutti instrument, but I can't find the proper instruments  like "Horns" in sibelius 8.5 which supposed to match with "Horns 4" patches in VSL. How could I achieve that tutti sound? Should I add 4 "French Horn" in the music sheet?

For percussions, VI SE Vol 1 has some intergrated patches like "Drum" to play "taiko","snare drum","bass drum"etc. Should I build seperate plugin channel for each instrument in VEP, or I can use one channel for all drums routing in sibelius?

    Best,

    Moh

  • Hello Moh!

If you want to use SYNCHRON-ized Special Edition and Epic Orchestra 2.0 in one project, you will need two Playback Devices with different sound sets. To play these instruments, you will need two Sibelius instruments too. It might work with an instrument change from "Violin 1 (Ensemble) [VSL Special Edition]" to "Strings" and vice versa too.

If you want to play the Horn ensemble preset, add a horn staff to your project and add the Technique Text command "a4" at the beginning of the staff.

To use different drums in one Playback Configuration, add a dedicated staff for every drum and reserve a channel for a every drum on the Sibelius Manual Sound Sets page and in Vienna Ensemble.

    Andi
