    Hi everybody,

    I am a EW user, but I'd really love to switch to VSL (Synchron or VI, not sure for now) and I was wondering if VSL was thinking about yearly or monthly subscription plan (for those who can't directly pay up front 6/8/10 K€) ? EW offers this type of prodcuts so... ??

    We're not thinking about subscription plans...

    Oh, please no subscription model... Adobe has been milking its customers for a good little while now, and with the latest subscription-fee price-hike people are jumping ship faster than you can say "Holy Titanic, Batman!! Didn't you see that iceberg coming...?"

    I saw this offer but I guess there are not so many articulations for each instrument, are there ? Also, I'm a bit confusing between Synchron and VI ? Could you please help me to understand what's the deal between those 2 offers ? Moreover, I'm used to use Diamond Hollywood series with every articulations, could you help me to know what type of bundle I would need with VSL to get the equivalent at least or more powerful of course ?

    Hi

    The VI libraries are recorded at the Silent Stage. Since they are dry libraries, you need some additional reverb. The Synchron libraries are recorded with the ambience of the Synchron Stage. And the Synchron-ized libraries are based on the VI libraries (they use the same samples) but they are powered by the Synchron Player and include Synchron Stage IRs thanks to MIR Pro's technology.     Thanks for your help but I'm still in doubt about the best tool for me if I choose to come to VSL from EW. Is it only a problem of reverb ? Is there any video which compare what you can do with VI and what you can't with Synchron ? I don't think it's just a question of reverb ? (by the way, if I get MIR pro, will I not be able to manage the reverb the way I want, I mean with other reverb response etc. if I choose Synchron ?)

    What is your budget ? It would be easier to help if I knew it. I was like you and moved from East West to VSL. I started with the Special Editions Bundle (VI) and upgraded to the complete collections over the years. Vienna Instruments and the Synchron Player are very similar. So, once you know one, it's easier to play with the other one. MIR Pro is an amazing software and you can combine it with other reverbs. 

    So, here is my advice :

    - If you don't have a lot of money, go with the Synchron-ized Special Editions.

    - If you can afford it, go with MIR Pro and the VI Collections (or VI Special Editions)

    The fact is not the only the price, but the price in front of what you got for it, and my real question is what do I have to go for if I want the same kind of possibilities than complete east west collection (Hollywood Strings, Brass, Woodwinds, Percussions & Choirs, everything in Diamond version, the best one) ?

    Hi,

    The recording philosophy of each sample developer is different, which shows different results.

    If you want the most choice, the best option is to get our VI Super Package and then add the new Synchron Package.

    To compare our products, you can also check the SAMPLE CONTENT tab that is available with every product, e.g., Solo Strings I, this will show the level of "completeness" we offer.

    Having said that, our Starter Editions come with all the essentials at a moderate price and will provide a great starting point to upgrade from.

    Ok, so here are the corresponding libraries : 

    - Hollywood Strings Diamond = VI Appassionata Strings I (Full). If you also want the muted strings, take the whole bundle. (No divisi in this library)

    - Hollywood Woodwinds Diamond = VI Woodwinds I (Full) and VI Woodwinds II (Full)

    - Hollywood Brass Diamond = VI Brass I (Full) and VI Brass II (Full).

    - Hollywood Percussion Diamond = VI Percussion (Full) or Synchron Percussion I (Standard). There is no equivalent to Stormdrum 2/3 in VSL's catalog.

    - Hollywood Choirs = Vienna Choir (Full). There is no Wordbuilder in this library.

    - Hollywood Solo Instruments Diamond = VI Harps (Full), VI Solo Violin 2, VI Solo Cello 2.

    The Special Editions Complete Bundle include all these libraries but with less articulations. For example, there are no articulations like crescendos or diminuendos. Of course, you can crossfade between the different layers with the Velocity fader but for the solo instruments, the transition is not always very smooth. Hope it helps.

    I understand, it’s not so easy to choose between your 2 own philosophies either... Synchron, VI 🤪... By the way, what’s the real difference between Standard and Full versions for each different player ? And about Synchron : can you work with other reverbs than the one included if you want to, or are you reduce to use the one VSL team choose during the recording of synchron samples ? Thx a lot

    I’m gonna check that, thanks a lot for your help, really. I’m gonna try to have a better understanding of all that stuff now. By the way, like I was asking Paul here before, what do you know about the reverb restrictions if I decided to work with Synchron ? Thx very much !

    Hi,

    VI libraries: Full adds more articulations and sometimes more velocity layers to the instruments.
    Synchron Libraries: Full adds more mic positions for surround or more control over the sound.

    The reverb: You can disable the Synchron reverb in all Synchronized libraries. In the Synchron libraries (Piano D, CFX; Synchron Percussion, Strings) the samples were recorded with reverb. You could try using only close mics and add your reverb. But with the Synchronized ones just disable the IR and add your reverb.
