  • Two compositions with Sax 1! One on tenor, other on soprano.

    [:D] Hello from France,
    I'm Jean, a new member.
I play real tenor saxophone, flute, and compose a personal music:
    "Free-Jazz-World-Experimental-Fusion" [:D] [:D] [H] , if I use stylistics terms!!
I bought Sax Vol 1 VSL one year ago, to play in the night with my wind controler Yamaha WX5, on Vst-i sampler, in Ableton Live sequencer.
When I compose, I'm using a lot of my intuition. I always work at first on sound and "design", with an immersion. Then, I organize this different elements to make the structure, or (and) use the improvisation capacities of Live to do it. After, I record my sax with lot of prepared improvisation.

My piece "Afrolatin Sax" is on this french website (click on Load button):

Thanks for listen to it!!! [[[:)]]] If you have got any comments please post [[[:)]]] [[[:)]]]

  • Very Nice, Jano. in order to get that sound I can tell you know the saxaphone very intimately.

  • Really really thanks [[:)]] I' m happy to read this and it boost me [[:)]]
Playing midi sax is very hard: the rythm, the notes, interpretation... It's a big effort to be realistic!!

  • Yes, I'm curious, how many different articulations did you use? Can you list the ones you had to use? Thanks!

    -Ben

  • In Afrolatin Sax and many other VSL pieces, I use "longs notes looped" only. For solos I really don't like editing midi, I want to be spontaneous, like with a real sax improvisation. I just correct bad notes after [[;)]]
I use also staccato for riffs, trills.... but not for solos.
I just sidegrade my EXS version to Kontakt, and I will finally use the performance tool for legato (I'm on PC), because at up tempos basic articulations are not good enough [H] The real big quality of this sax VOL 1 is the sound: very expressive! (I listen to Yellow Tools Candy demos and don't like them: it sounds too much "midi like"). But the major difficulty with my WX5 is that velocity is played on attack, and volume during the "note on" message. So it's very hard to calibrate the breath on velocity to be progressive with differents samples. But it's very good for progress on precision and sax playing: the good note at the good time, or it sounds bad [H]

  • hey man, i really enjoyed your Afrolatin Sax! very expressive and bluesy indeed! i'm lovin it. great job.

  • Thank you man [:)] Very pleased you enjoyed!
I prepare a compo with VSL Soprano in Perf Leg mode [H]
