  • Jazz Drums - Panning

hi, the panning of the jazz drums-library (in vienna instruments) is a little too strong for me (closed-hat & ride for example). in the menu „advanced“ i can change it, but i have to do it again in different velocities (and with different faders) and like that i‘m not getting good results (it doesn‘t sound good to me). do you have any tips for doing it in another / the right way? thanks! greets lp — german: die jazz-drums sind (in vienna instruments) für meinen geschmack zu stark gepannt (z.B. die closed-hat & ride). unter „advanced“ kann ich das zwar anpassen, jedoch muss ich das bei verschiedenen velocity werten (und mit verschiedenen fadern), immer wieder machen und komme so auf kein gutes ergebnis (klingt nicht gut). könnt ihr mir da tipps geben, wie ich das am besten löse? danke! lglp

  • The most straigh-forward way would be to reduce the overall stereo width of the Jazz Drums' main bus, e.g. to something like 80%. All professional DAWs offer built-in tools to do so, either by means of the track panning device, or at least by means of a dedicated plug-in.

If you don't want to do that for one reason or the other, there are many specialized plug-ins, like the Power Panner in Vienna Suite / Pro, or Waves' S-1.

  • thanks! but i also don't get the results i want, with this method. i actually wanna pan each sound by it's own, but in every velocity at the same time - so 1 pan-fader for one sound - is this possible or do have to stick to the advanced page and do it like i used to do?

  • The answer is "yes", I'm afraid ...
