  • VEP 7 - Some Automation Window glitches and requests

Lots to like in VEP7 :)

Some glitches in the Automation Window however. all in Win 10 Pro:

    1.  When the window is undocked and there are more parameters than can be displayed by default (ie when the scroll bar shows), the bottom line is partially cut off.

    2.  When the window is docked and you click a cell at the bottom of the pane to select the destination, the pop up menu falls off the bottom of the UI - it should know to size above the selected event, not below.

    3.  In either scenerio, the + / Clear buttons at the top should always remain, otherwise its a lifetime of scrolling on busy sessions.

And a request or two on the same subject:

    1.  The new menu that pops up to select the destination is slower and more clicks in use than the old heierachy - the required double click at the end feels clumsy.

    2.  It would be great if you could right click copy / paste a parameter.

    3.  It would be EXTREMELY great if there was an additional button next to + and Clear, named Next.  This would be a new automation event fully filled with auto increment parameters appended to the bottom event.  Ideally this would have a little pop up setup where you could choose what to auto-increment: SOURCE: Midi Port; Midi Channel; Midi CC no; DESITNATION: Channel No; Event.  This would exponentially reduce my set up times.

    Thanks all.

  • Thanks for your reports! We're getting to the glitches/bugs straight away, and I also like your feature requests.

Just one question about feature request #2: Exactly what would you want to copy/paste?

  • Thanks v much Martin.  #2 might be superceded with #3 if you could implement that, but one thing I do a lot is route successive midi channels to the same disable channel command, for example.  So if I could copy / paste that disable channel from one destination to many, it would save a lot of mouse clicks.

But as I say, if there was a really slick auto-increment Next feature where we could quickly set the parmeters - in my example increment midi channel number, keep the destination the same - then that would be even better :)

  • Guy,

Your bug reports are being taken care of right now.

Regarding the parameter copy - perhaps you would be helped by an alt-drag for copying the midi source to the next entry?

We also have discussed a feature to enable channels on MIDI note-on activity - I don't know if that would be of help for you?

Great news re bugs, thanks Martin!

Alt-drag - could you explain a little more?  Not sure I'm quite following.

A wake on midi would be absolutely terrific, its something I've been calling for for a long time.  In an ideal world that would be in addition to a Next button, but I guess that's pretty greedy 😊

  • Guy,

Your reported bugs have been fixed for the next release.

Additionally, we added a feature to drag-drop-copy the MIDI source assignment:

    • Hold Alt and drag the entry to another entry: assignment copied
    • Hold Alt-Shift and drag the entry to another entry: assignment copied, CC incremented
    • Hold Alt-Cmd and drag the entry to another entry: assignment copied, Channel incremented

  • Wow, that sounds fantastic, thanks Martin!  Very quick too, amazing work.
