  • Any comparions of VSL on GS vs. Kontakt?

    Hi,

On a few other A/B compares, GS (even ver 2.5) sounded sliightly better than same lib on Kontakt to me. Has anyone had the opportunity to compare VSL on the two samplers?

    Thanks,
    Joanne

  • I guess this is one of those "sensative, you need to PM" topics...

  • Nah, its not sensitive. I just doubt that many people have the option of A/B comparison. But as the programming stands now you would be better off with GS rather than Kontakt. For GS3 you have the possibility of legato crossfades... I dont think that is an option in kontakt. But I could very well be wrong...

Also you can convert GS to kontakt, but not vice versa... another reason to get GS.

  • Christian,

My guess is there is very little difference purely sound-wise of Kontakt vs. GS, so things like cross-fades and conversion are likely the more relevant points to consider. Apppreciated.

  • Hi, as stated in some other threads in the last few days, all sampler platforms supported by the Vienna Symphonic Library share the same capacities as far as our products are concerned,

There are some slight differences with these platforms, one being, that with EXS, HALion and Kontakt the control of the Release Time must be chosen BEFORE you play a tone, whereas GigaStudio lets you adjust the Releae Time while you play.

This doesn´t matter much with Legato Release Control (I think that is what you meant by "Legato Crossfade", isn´t it?), as you will find your relevant settings when you play with the instrument.

Concerning the conversion of our programs: All programs for all platforms have been manually checked, set and adapted to the needs of each individual platform and therefore sound the same and share the same functionality. Herb Tucmandl does the initial mapping on GigaStudio.

You can tell that each platform is very well equipped and supported by the fact, that every user always says, that his or her platform is the best [[;)]]

    Best wishes,

    Paul

  • Soundwise, modern samplers differ only marginally as long as they "just" stream samples out of RAM and/or from the disk. The differences start when you play samples with extremly different pitches than their orginal, and even more if you go into creative sounddesign. This is of course an interesting aspect, but not necessarily one that is of importance regarding our Libraries, as Paul already wrote.

  • On this topic I just wanted to say "thanks" for making the new Horizon offerings available in Kontakt, my sampler of choice. Makes alot of the Horizon packages much more attractive to me. [:)]
