  • Slave was showing in host but now not.

Hi everyone. I'm new to VE Pro and this forum. I apologize for showing up with a problem along with my introduction, lol.  Over the past week or so, I have been trying to setup and use VE Pro for the first time.  My system is:

     - Master: PC running Win 10 and Cubase 9.5

    - Slave: PC laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad) Win 10

I have all the software downloaded on both.  I am trying to run VE Pro Server 64-bit on each.  The two machines are connected via single Cat-6 cable which attaches directly to a new gigabit network card I just purchased for this mission, and then to the laptop. The adaptor card was recommended by another user who was successfully using it.

So I open VE Pro Server 64-bit on each machine. Then I open Cubase 9.5 on the master.  I open a new project, open the instrument rack, select VE Pro 64-bit, and then click connect on the little box.  All it shows me is the "localhost", no slave.

Now, a few nights ago, I had the slave working but it was glitchy.  I then realized that I needed to disable the wi-fi in order for it to all work, and it did, and I was elated.  The next day, I continued with the saved project in Cubase and managed to get both machines working together.  I was super thrilled. I had an instance of the VE-Pro Server working on both machines and the VE Pro in Cubase was seeing and addressing them both perfectly.  This was two days ago, and then yesterday morning, I got up early, re-opened the template I had started as a VE-Pro experiment, and it was all working still.  This was great news.  Maybe I could begin to build trust in this system and start to make an actual template from it.

Fast forward to this morning.  I open both Servers, open Cubase, and the template I created doesn't see the slave.  I restart everything, start a new project in Cubase, and it still can't see the slave.

I used a few youtube tutorials and plenty of other research to set this up.  I have static IP addresses setup in both machines.  The master is 10.0.0.1 and the slave is 10.0.0.2.  The Subnet mask on each machine is set to 255.255.255.0, and let me just tell you up front, I know nothing about networking.  I have gone through my Windows Defender settings and supposedly it is disabled on the networks on both machines and even if I'm missing something there, VE Pro is in the list of programs to not be blocked on my networks inside Windows Defender Firewall.

So anyway, I am at a loss right now.  I really want nothing more than to be able to use this software and start my new routine as a VE Pro user.  I would greatly appreciate any help you may be able to offer.  I have to get ready for work in a few, so I might not be able to try any suggestions till later tonight, but I will certainly chase down any paths you might think I could take to get this resolved.  Thanks so much!

  • One thing I just noticed, in case it helps anyone help me, is that on both machines, when I go to Network Connections, select my dedicated ethernet and then right click for Status, both machines show

    IPv4 Connectivity: No Network Access

    I{v6 Connectivity: No Network Access

  • ....and I also just noticed that I'm posting in the wrong section. My apologies.  If a mod could move this to the proper area, that would be great. Thank you.

  • Ok, I went home for lunch and started my PCs again.  Everything is working fine.  I am wondering if I'm not waiting long enough after booting up in order for all the services to be started.  Anyway, I was thrilled that the slave was showing up again and streaming midi and audio like a champ.  If I have any other problems, I'll be sure to post.
