  • Finale 26 - From VST Banks to ScoreManager to VE 6

Per VE 6 documentation, setting up one VE instance for two ports and 32 channels should be a snap. But here is where I am stuck:

Finale VST banks and Effects shows VE on Bank 4 and 5. The Finale ScoreManager shows 16 instruments on Bank 4 which play perfectly in VE if I select MIDI Port 1 for the sixteen channels.  So, I'm thinking, if I select for some remaining instruments Bank 5 in ScoreManager, and MIDI Port 2 for those channels, should work. But NO!  It won't.

    What am I missing?

    Any suggestions most appreciated.

  • Hello Ken!

Finale doesn't support VST3. So you can only use port 1 of Vienna Ensemble with Finale. If you need more than 16 channels, please add a second Vienna Ensemble instance in Finale.

  • Thanks, Andi :-)

I was just getting ready to post that I had figured it out late last night, although I didn't have the technical explanation, which is very helpful.  I probably would benefit from some study on the different levels of VST.

But at least I can make it work. It's pretty simple once I got the hang of it.  I now have three instances in Finale, I use the port numbers that are shown in Finale VST Banks and Effects in the ScoreManager, but in the VE instance, the port is always 1. As long as the MIDI channels agree with the ScoreManager, all is well.

    Thanks for your quick response!

Now it's on to making the music!  Yay!!
