  • How does changing venues work in MIR Pro?

I don't have MIR Pro but am planning to get it soon.

I'm wondering, how does it work when you change from one venue to another? Do the instrument positions all stay the same (and thus may be invalid in the new venue?)

    Here is a simple test:

    1. Load venue 1 and place a violin on the far left side of the stage

    2. Load venue 2

Where does the violin appear in venue 2?

    3. Now move the violin to the right side of the stage on venue 2

    4. Switch back to venue 1

Where is the violin now on venue 1?

I'm just wondering how effectively I can compare different venues in MIR Pro.

  • Comparing Venues with completely different geometries is difficult without sacrificing either sound, usability, and/or predictability. :-) Thus we decided that the absolute position of an Icon will stay untouched in relation to the defined "absolute zero" of the Venue Map when changing Venues*). This is the most predictable way to handle it, but of course not always an easy way to compare Venues.

To work around this issue, MIR Pro's Venue selection window offers the Preview feature which plays pre-rendered examples for all instrument families.

MIRx Mode is the one big exception: When switching between Venues which offer MIRx presets, all properly assigned instruments will automatically find their respective pre-defined positions and settings.

Makes sense. So am I able to save "snapshots" to switch between (I would be using VEP, which I also don't have currently). The idea being that I can load venue 1 and make my mix. Then load venue 2 and make my other mix. Then switch between them to compare.

  • Yes, that's possible, but only when you're using VE Pro as host (... it will depend on the DAW's abilility to save snapshots in case you're using MIR Pro in its plug-in version).

The feature is called "Channel Set". It's available form the right-click context menu in the Instrument List to the left or the "Channel" menu entry in the main menu.
