  • For some reasons I don't like the presets delivered by VSL ("wasting" the modwheel for articulations instead using it for dynamics, for instance).

    So I build all presets from scratch (VIPro and SynchronPlayer).

    I try to use allways the same keyswitches for the different libraries.

    A is sustain, B is legato, doesn't matter if strings woodwinds or brass.

    For synchron strings I use keyswitches inside the synchron player, which are remapped to my personal keyswitches / expression maps.


  • I think you can do it by just adding another event in your Output Mapping. Go to Expression Map Setup, choose your Marcato Sound Slot, press + in the Output Mapping (top right), choose Note-On and add another note like C#1 or G6. Have not tested it myself, hope that works.


  • Thanks TFIS, I agree, in VI/VEP I have built all my templates and keyswitches from scratch. Seems I will have to do the same in Synchron, though I thought otherwise.

  • Thank you stan-k. Yup, That would be an option too. More experimentation to be done for different options. I had not realised until you pointed it out that in the output mapping I can have more than one destination assigned. I think that is the answer. Cheers !

    I'd just like to mention that we offer VST Expression Maps for Synchron Strings I, which also work with SYNCHRON-ized Chamber Strings and SYNCHRON-ized Appassionata Strings. They incorporate the keyswitches, but not MIDI CC commands. You could give them a try.

    Andi, I would just like to thank you again for pointing me in the right direction. Seeing these VST expression maps has helped me realise quite what possibilities there are with the Synchron Player, it is very complex and will reward deep research, study and experimentation. Though I will be making my own presets and expression maps these are very informative. My initial response on this thread was a little naive. As someone who constantly ran out of slots in VI PRO I am starting to see how useful and expressive this will be. I am starting to think that, maybe, perfect has been improved upon ;p

    I agree! I'll try to start from an existing map, I guess it will be quicker and easier ;-)


  • I always made my own presets in VI Pro and it's the same for Synchron Player. There really are no limitations to using the latter with expression maps. There are many ways to customize and remap everything, and expression maps do respond to simultaneous keyswitches and/or CCs without issues.

    Hi Andi,
    I made some changes in SP, keeping vib XF slots only and going to a key note instead of CC for regular/lyrical switching. I implemented regular & lyrical XFvib in Expression Maps using group 2 but it doesn't work... Having the XFvib in Group 1 works but it stops and replaces the other articulations indeed so not a solution. Any idea ?

    I can't say what goes wrong in your Expression Map, but if you introduce a second group, you will always have to think about all possible (and impossible) combinations of Group 1 and Group 2 articulations. So this could make your Expression Map huge.

  • I think I had forgotten about how it works. Fixed now, had to double every relevant articulation and address the group 2 vib articulations for each...
