  • Hard drive editions: a problem

With this talk of releasing the future editions of VSL on hard drive, I have a serious consideration: If we receive the VSL on a hard drive, we have to spend more money on some kind of media to make a backup. As we all know, data does not exist unless it is in 2 or more places!

With the current system, supplying VSL on DVD's, at least we have the DVD's to make a new copy with if we have a hard drive crash.

Any comments from Herb and the forum?

    Regards - Colin

PS - I just ordered my complete EXS24 version of VSL an hour ago, so I feel like I'm more of a "member" here than an onlooker now. [+o(] [+o(]

  • let me state the harddrive on which the edition will be delivered is intended to _be_ the backup-medium, as it will be possibly a firewire-drive and therefore not fit to the needs of many users (speed, system-design, ect)

also it has to be considered, that as the filesystem can be only FAT32 (to make sure, all operating-systems can read the data), which will be probably slow on a mac and not very reliable on a W2K/XP-computer

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • so, you're saying the hard drive that VSL ships on is NOT intended to be "used" - just copied from?

    Okay......

  • ... as the currently shipped dvd-roms are not intended to be *used* [;)]
