  • Long patches Vel XF

Let's have a long patch with Vel XF on.

Global intensity starts from very low volume and increases while increasing the velocity fader until 90/100.

From 100 to maximum value, intensity decreases. From a few dBs on no Vib patch to 4dBs on lyrical vib i.e. Any idea about what's happening there, is there anything wrong in my setup ? Not only the volume is lower but also the vibrato sounds less intense at high velocity values.

Here's a link to the video, if ever it helps...

  • So, anyone experiencing that ?

Paul, am I wrong somewhere or is it the real behaviour for now ? Thanks.

  • Hi Javajam,

the lyrical vibrato patches do not have a fff layer, regular vibrato patches do have a fff.
Therefor a patch crossfade between regular and lyrical vibrato with maximum velocity would cause a higher gain on the regular vibratos.

    all the best
    Herb

  • Hi Herb,

Paul explained we shouldn't crossfade between reg and lyr vibratos, I think it's a bit annoying but that's not what I'm describing here.

I'm talking about velocity XF, whatever the long patch you're using, no vib, regular or lyrical. The intensity is not increasing together with the velocity when it comes to 90/100 values. Having velocity XF 'on' indeed.

    Best,

  • Sorry to insist about this but I have to figure it out.

Vel XF & (VI) Slot XF plus a bit of Expression are the way to go for accurate expressivity.

The Vel.XF looks to be non linear on high values. I mean let's say you're driving your car, accelerate, more and more and at a point, while still accelerating the car slows down a bit. That's what Vel XF does here.

Paul, can you please tell me about ? Thank you.

    Alain

  • Hello Alain,

Not the same behaviour here... please send me the song: support@vsl.co.at
