  • Greatest All Around MIR?

I am wondering what people think about this question - I have been using the various MIR venues, and though I am intensely in love with Mystic Spaces for special, beautiful mystical sound, and have always used Vienna Konzerthaus for many large scale projects, I have now siezed violently upon Pernegg Monastery as a "Go-to" reverb.  There is something about the depth and clarity of the sound that is unmatched.  It can do anything - just by adjusting the dry/wet.  It is so rich and deep yet clear.  I feel it is the best ever sampled reverb.

  • Thanks for your kind words, William.

As they are all "my babies" I have a hard time to single out one MIR Venue, but you're right that Pernegg is a real beauty - acoustically as well as technically; and it's extremely flexible on top of it. :-)

    Kind regards,

  • I have just the Synchron Stage (had tested the other with the 30 days trial, but without any MIR experience), so I can say what I love about this stage:
    - The reverb is clear and not so mudded on the low end as most IR reverbs are.
    - It's also flexible enough that with a bit tweaking it handles smaller ensembles just fine.
    - The spacial impression is great.

  • I feel that there is no single best MIR venue, and its best to have a collection to suit different pieces of music. I have them all but my favourites are: The Sage hall 1 Synchron stage Pernegg Mozartsaal Teledex Studio Weiler MIR Pro and Dimension Strings are the ultimate VSL products IMO.

  • I like hearing these other responses.  I totally agree on the Synchron, it is so clear and yet very natural and full.  Also, really impossible to say which is "best" as they have different uses.  I have not yet tried the Sage Hall- will look into that!

  • Currently loving the foyer of the Konzerthaus.  I've had tons of requests recently for organ music in cues and for theme music, and since I don't own the Pernegg, it's been rockin' for me.  Dunno if it's the best, but certainly works better than my other verbs.

  • Thanks for the friendly words, Stephen! The Foyer of the Vienna Konzerthaus is an incredible hall indeed, and we tried our best to capture this marble beauty in all its glorious witdh and depth.

Trivia: Despite its size, the Foyer is maybe the MIR Venue with the smallest number of actual positions used for IR recordings (apart from the small studio booths in Studio Weiler). Being the entrance area for all halls of the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Foyer is hardly soundproofed against noise from the surrounding streets. Even under perfect (studio-) conditions it usually takes us around 30 minutes to capture a _single_ position for MIR, and we had just a few hours during a snowy winter-night to do our recordings in the Foyer ... 8-P

Isn't it great that MIR allows for seamless interpolation between these discrete positions ... ;-)

  • Really thank you VSL and all the people who work, I very much appreciate and enjoyed Mir Pro. I try it with synchron strings in many rooms, it's really great for everything and anything (related to music). Thank you Dietz. Best Regards, Yasir.

  • :-) Thanks a lot, Yasir - you're welcome!

  • I have not yet used the Konzerthaus Foyer -  I had assumed it was just a little add-on to the main venue and didn't realize it was such a good space so I definitely will check it out!
