  • New computer-moving or reinstalling VI libraries

I recently bought a new computer system. I have a copy of the sample drive from my old computer where I had all my VI instruments. Of course I also have the VSL Key. What is the correct way to get the instruments running in my new machine? Do I need to reinstall everything or is there an easier way? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Mike

    Hi Mike,

Here is the procedure for moving to a new computer, step by step.

On your new computer, please make sure that you are using the latest eLCC and the latest VSL software.

Also, please connect your ViennaKey with your licenses.

If you have your sample content still available, simply copy it to your new computer. Then open the Directory Manager and drag this folder onto it. Here is a video on how to use the Directory Manager.

For the sake of completeness: If you DON`T have the sample content available anymore, please insert DVD#1 of your collection, then launch the Library Installer and follow the instructions for installation.

Alternatively, you can also download all Vienna Instruments Collections from MyVSL (instructions in the column to the left).

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hello Paul,

    I have one more question:

Fortunately I do have a complete copy of my old sample drive, so it sounds like I can just copy that to the new computer and go from there without having to reinstall all instruments!! Is that correct?  After copying the old drive info and opening Directory Manager, do I need to do a rescan, or assuming the drive path is named exactly the same, will it just recognize things as usual?

    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Hi Michael,

Yes, you can copy or move the data.

And once this is done, open the Directory Manager and drag all folders on top of the "list window" in the Directory Manager. The DM will include subfolders.

    Best,
    Paul
