  • Shameless plug for a non-competitive product

Off-topic I know but I just wanted to share this with somebody - and call me a little slow off the mark here, as it's been around for years - but I've just had my first experience of Melodyne and it just blew me away.

I saw the opportunity to make full use of the product when I had to create a brass band (on a very tight budget) for a recent documentary. A trumpet player friend of mine came in and played all the parts I had written (including the Tuba!) and we shifted the pitches and formants in Melodyne to create a full brass ensemble sound.

It was so fast and intuitive, and the results amazed us both - the Tuba was astounding, when he took a breath it even sounded like he was breathing through the Tuba - but then we've often made (sometimes fairly futile) attempts in the past at making the trumpet sound like a flugel, trombone or horn with careful use of dusting cloths and EQ!

You've got to try this if you haven't already - a much more creative and flexible solution than Autotune.

I'm sure the singers LOVE you .... [[;)]]

  • Yes, they do. [H]

But there's so much more you can with Melodyne than just using it as a glorified AutoTune. Messing around with tempo, rhythm, formants, and even the dynamic emphasis of a single note is an incredible pool for creative ideas.

So true. I enjoyed the idea in one of their demos of applying a melody to a non-pitched instrument - brilliant! And just the speed of the calculations is amazing.
