  • An interesting image

I just stumbled upon this image of what appears to be a non-coincident microphone setup in Mir Pro.

    https://www.synchronstage.com/images/MIRHarfeDemo_Screenshot-01_960x525.jpg

    Care to comment? (Dietz)

  • Yes this (the multimicrophone-setup inside the MIR-Synchronstage-Venue ) would exactly be what we need to combine silent and synchronstage libraries completly comparable (what means likewise mixable)

Meanwhile this might at the same moment make it more complex to controle and to use. But in a strict logical sens this would be the most comparable way to mix Silentstage-Libraries via MIR with Synchronstage-Libraries.

If I remind right Dietz made some experiments with a multimicrophone-setup in MIR. As far as I know something like that is not yet available and even not yet decided if it will be any time later.

    Hi Hanquist,

this is indeed a screenshot from a software which will be part of the Synchron Recording process:

-> https://www.synchronstage.com/en/technology#!mir_synchron_tech (... I assume that this is the page you got the screenshot from, isn't it?)

This software has been developed for in-house use only. While it is (obviously) based on MIR Pro as we know it, its underlying engine is quite different and needs to be handled with caution, as there are many restrictions. As far as I can say, there are no plans to make a commercial product out of it.

The actual Synchron Stage Vienna Venue for MIR Pro is not affected by these restrictions, of course.

    Kind regards,

Are there any plans to simulate the multi-microphone-setup of the Synchron-Series in MIR to allow comparable mixing of Synchron and Silentstage libraries?

  • No, not in the foreseeable future.

I see why this is not an easy task. Fixed positions are probably needed for this to work, thus tons of IRs have to be recorded. I guess the non-coincident approach would work with the dimension series, but the stereo and ensemble patches, not so much. Nevertheless, I hope someday we will see a package featuring non-coincident microphones 😉

Exactly! These are some of the hurdles a "Decca MIR" would have to overcome (without quadrupling the price for each new Venue). 😊

This, and the not-so-obvious, but even more demanding issue of positioning the dry/original signal properly according to the original position of the impulse, whithout running into serious phase and/or timing issues. This can be achieved perfectly in the Ambisonics domain, while you have to accept severe limitations when you try to mimic the idiosyncrasies of spaced multi-microphone setups (... which are technically "wrong", strictly spoken).

    Thanks anyway for your interest!
