Just in case you missed the latest updates on our main-site:

    -> http://www.vsl.co.at/english/pages/profile/news/the_mir_project.htm

... and there are still more announcements to be expected during the next few weeks :-]

    Thanks for your interest,

  • Thank you for sample greatness [:)]

  • Thanks Dietz and all this is very exciting.

    A question.

Is it the long term aim of VSL to produce a single product which will enable users to produce virtual orchestration without connection/plugin to other prgorammes like GigaStudio and Sequencers.

I'm sure this is everyones dream.

  • without sequencers? huh? I thought it was a fancy reverb plugin. (which looks very exciting)

  • this looks fab , totally intriguing .. am looking forward to seeing this one out ... soon.

well done VSL [[:D]] and good luck [[:D]]

Not a plugin, and much more than just reverb. You'll understand once you saw the whole picture.

    All the best,

We never made a secret of the fact that recording and releasing our samples will not be the end of our work; actaully, quite the contrary is true: they are the basis for a bunch of great ideas; the MIR is the first of the next steps. ... Be prepared [;)]

Ok Mr Dietz here's the deal - in about 3 years time I'm gonna be ready to start creating my virtual performance of Sorabji's Jami Symphony. 4.5 hours long, massive symphony orchestra, two huge choirs, Piano Organ as many as 92 staves of score - you make sure VSL is up to it, I'll be prepared and together we'll make beautiful music. • Right on, Mr. Tuba, right on :-]

  • Interesting Times!

Dietz, if you mean by your remarks there's a possibility of a fully integrated package seamlessly connected with samples, effects, sequencer, notation, and audio processing package all in one 'box', then i think you just may be on a very large winner.

If this is the goal, then i for one will be near the front of the queue.

    Regards,

    Alex.

  • KVR mentioned that Audio Ease (the maker of Altiverb) is aslo involved in MIR. Is this true? What piece of the puzzle are they providing?

    --Jay

  • Psssst ... I want to make a "real" announcement during the next days [;)] ...

In short, the MIR relies on a developers partnership, including AKG Acoustics, the Wiener Konzerthaus, AudioEase, and the Vienna Symphonic Library - amongst others.

    Details tba soon!

  • will this real announcement give us a date to look forward to ?

i ask this because I have have make a decision as to whether to upgrade my Altiverb or not ..

i'd glady consider waiting for VSL.. if i knew how long [:D]

  • Upgrade your AltiVerb - we won't release a finished product during the next months. The cooperation I mentioned above is young, that's why we experience a delay in our schedule.

  • Now THIS is starting to sound very much like what I've been waiting for!

Please tell me, Dietz, that us Mac users won't be left out of the picture! I have a PC, but I try to avoid booting it whenever possible. And Logic? Nope, not for me. I know it's the platform of choice for the Mac, but it's not for me...
You guys need to replace all this crap with one, unified environment.

Oooh, what a happy day that would be!!!

  • If you take in account how extremely demanding even _one_ convolution is, you may understand that the MIR-engine is most likely something that runs on a dedicated machine, for the necessary CPU-performance. This will be a PC, as far as I can say from today's point of view, but during operation, you shouldn't see too much of its OS.

  • eek!

hmmm... now you've really got me wondering what's going on... perhaps a server-type situation, where the "engine" machine(s) can be controlled by a strictly UI-based front-end on another machine? One dedicated machine for the composition interface, then n PCs slaved out for running the audio?
If I'm even vaguely close to the mark on this, then I hope to god the UI can be run on a Mac... Windows gives me shingles.

veeeery intriguing... wouldn't want you thinking too big over there! [;)]

  • ....or maybe you could just make a VSL-OS, so that my PC would just boot right into the VSL!!! YEAH! I could lay to rest any nightmares of that creepy little dog sneaking up on me from the patched depths of NTFS, or apps suddenly disappearing without even the vague comfort of an "unexpectedly quit" window, or of treading in that god-forsaken place called The Registry (which it seems to me is a government record of civilian fire arms...)

anyway, time to eat... my brain's slipping again.

  • Hi Dietz,
I've imagined how does the MIR looks like.
    I've draw the following pictures.
And I think if it can be a reality, then it will bring end to the mixing work of a virtual orchestra. Does it right?
And in my opinion, according what I know, the MIR should be like this.

  • [:D] You must have quite some time at hand to play with these ideas! I'm impressed.

Did you see our GUI-concept on the Messe? I think you will like it!
