  • Sibelius dictionary listing

    Hi,
Is there a listing I can download of all the articulations that apply when using Sibelius with VSL?
For instance, I search up and down through the forums and a lot of new users like me ask very similar questions to solve one type of articulation.  Is it "Growl" or "Flutter" or "Tremolo"?   Is it "ord", "normal", "standard"?
I eventually find the answer in this forum, but I feel I'm missing something because it shouldn't be this hard to know the syntax of a technique.
I've read the pdfs that relate to the libraries I've purchased, and I haven't found this.
In Sibelius, when entering a technique text, you can right click to bring up a list but all I find are about 20 standards like, Staccato, Marcato etc.
Under each instrument on the web site are the sample content with names and articulations but these don't appear in Sibelius nor is it obvious to me which to pick from the Sibelius keypad that matches those articulations on the web site.
I'm under the impression that these articulation words should appear in the dictionary.  If I want to have Fanfare trumpets switch to the B matrix line because that's where the flutter patch is, then all I should do is have to enter "flutter" as the technique.  My preference for now that I'm learning how to use the libraries is to not have to embed a lot midi CC into my score.
Any help would be appreciated?  If anyone knows of a good online tutorial that focusses on Sibelius and how to leverage the dictionary, then that would be super helpful.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Hello BigAl123!

All commands to change articulations with our sound sets are listed in the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual, pages 8-20.

  • Thanks - that was easier than I thought.  I was over thinking this.

I would like to know if these technique"texts" should appear in the right-click drop down when I enter a technique with ctrl-t in Sibelius?  In the online videos related to VE and Sibelius optimization I've seen, the tutorial ends where this is discussed.

How do I confirm that the Vienna Symphonic House Style is actually loaded correctly?

BTW I wish I knew how to clear that messy formatting from the original post.

    Alain

  • Hello Alain!

Only the most common technique texts are listed in the right-click drop down menu. The others have to be typed.
As far as I know, it's not possible in Sibelius to see which House Style is currently loaded. If you are not sure, you can always reload the House Style under Appearance/House Style/Import.

    Best regards,
    Andi
