  • Help on getting slave (Win 7 PC) to run with master (Mac Pro) needed URGENTLY!

    Dear Forum,

I posted this some months ago, but still I had no luck fixing my problem or getting help from a knowledgeable person. Could someone in this forum PLEASE help? I am also willing to pay money if someone's help fixes the issue!

I've searched this forum and googled a lot, but didn't get an answer to my problem. The VEP manual also sheds no light.

Everyone seems to assume that establishing a LAN connection between master (Mac Pro late 2013, Yosemite) and slave (windows 7 PC) is somethings everybody knows. Well, I'm not one of those.

Can someone talk me through the process? What exact settings are needed on both the windows PC and the Mac.

Assume that I know close to nothing about networks. So saying: "Set a fixed IP address" means nothing to me.

If my problem is too basic for this forum, maybe someone can point me to an internet resource. Thanks to everyone!

I have so far managed the following:

    1. Installed the VEP 6 software on my slave PC (WIN 7) and on my master Mac (Mac Pro late 2013), including an elicenser USB drive plugged into the slave PC.

    2. Connected both computers via a standard ethernet cable (ethernet 2 port on the Mac).

    3. Set what I think are fixed, manual IP addresses, namely

       a) on the Mac: IPv4 configuration: manual
                              IP address: 192.168.25.2
                              Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
                              Router: (none)
The network window shows a green light next to the Ethernet 2 entry and says "connected".

       b) on the PC: network properties of IPv4 set to manual
                            IP address: 192.168.25.3
                            Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
                            Standard Gateway: (none)

    4. On the Windows PC, the network environment shows a working connection between the PC and an "unidentified" network, which must be the Mac, and the PC has no internet connection (no other LAN or WiFi card installed), so there is a red x across the line between the "unidentified" network and the "internet".

    5. I launch VE PRO 6 Server (64bit) on the PC, then launch Logic on the Mac, instantiate a VE PRO 6 plugin on a MIDI track. However, the "server" field is EMPTY. That has been the case all day today, but there used to be a connetion earlier. It randomly came and went.

So that's where I'm at right now. I'd love to say that the VEP software and slave PC investment was a good idea. So far, it wasn't.

  • Hello jangrenner,

    Sounds good so far.

Personally, I'd suggest to use the "classic" consumer network 192.168.0.x instead of 192.168.25.x

Did you try to connect only those 2 computers and use Ethernet Port 1 on your mac to establish this connection?

If that doesn't help, please send screenshots of your network settings (both computers) to support@vsl.co.at, so we can take a look.

    Best,
    Paul
