  • Performance Set HD/Computer splitting?

I'm sure this is a silly question, but one I'd feel better knowing the answer to. I just ordered the Performance Set, and until I build a machine just for it, I'll be trying to use a couple of machines that are already used (and will continue to be) as other giga machines. So I won't be removing the samples that are currently on the data drives from them. The trouble is, I don't have the drive space on any one drive for them. So, the question is, can I install just the Performance Set across two data drives on the same machine?

ie - One machine has a 30GB system drive, and two 45GB data drives, one of which already has a good chunk of samples on it. There's enough drive space between those two, but can VSL install this way? Or will it tell me there is not enough available drive space when it asks for a drive to be specified to install to?

Also, is it possible to do a partial installation on one of the other machines? With a traditional sample library, I wouldn't even think twice about this. Just copy the .gig files you want onto the drive you want. But the Performance Set works a bit differently, and I want to make sure these things are possible.

If I need to buy an 80gb drive prior to this library getting here Saturday, I'd like to have it installed and waiting by Friday night. Any advice would be welcome.

    Thanks,
    mike

  • you can split the library on as many drives/machines you like
just for your conveniance it would make sense to keep the instruments together in its respective folder on one drive

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Thanks, Christian, I'd have been pretty bummed if I'd had to leave the house after it was delivered just to pick up an extra drive instead of playing with it immediatly. After thinking about it, I'll go ahead and get a a newer drive today anyway, but the other machine will still only entail a partial install with only certain instruments, so it's good to know I can do that too. Appreciate the info! And now begins my less than 21-hour wait for the package to get here... [:D] Really need to occupy myself...
