  • Opportunity to manage licenses between Vienna Key and Vienna Account - ON/OFF Mode

Everyone is concerned about issues on dongles in general, because we invested thousands of Euros/Dollars in sound libraries and those are the real big investment for our Studio.

It would be great to have the opportunity to manage them between the Vienna Key to our personal Account when we do not need to use them.

    For instance:

    - This week I have not to use the dongle because I am using other sound libraries or I am travelling for business reasons.

    - I open eLicenser, I connect my Vienna Key and choose "Push back/Deactivate" my licenses so they come back to my own personal Vienna Account as the first time I purchased them.

    - So, everything happens to my dongle, I am safe, I can always plug in my Vienna Key or another one when I come back and activate them again.

    - The licenses cannot be activated in two dongles at the same time thus it is not possible to hack them.

The reason why I opened this thread is that we really want that our investment was safe and in the same time we understand that licenses and library must be protected from the piracy.

    The real dream:

I would like to have the opportunity to be safe that nothing can happen to my investment. If I need to download the libraries because I forgot my HD and I am travelling, I can always log onto my Vienna Account, download them and activate my licenses in order to use them. To be sure I cannot loose them in any case. That's maybe a dream, but I think that in technology many things can change and improve really fast.

    Thank you. 😊

  • Hi mediaetas,

Thanks for posting. That's our dream as well.

This dream depends on the technical possibilities that Steinberg, owner of the eLicenser technology, provides for us. RIght now such a solution is not available, but I hope that we can find a workable solution in the future (we are working on it, and have been for quite a while).

    Best,

  • It sounds a bit like what Native Instruments does with Native Access. The key is the authorization program, that communicates with NI servers to check what is being used. This also allows for installation on two (or three, if you own the Komplete package) computers, without having to move a physical key between the desktop and laptop. Since I've never liked Steinberg software (I'm suffering with their audio interface, great Yamaha hardware and subpar Steinberg software), and always loved NI software, I hope VSL can switch from Steinberg to NI for their protection technology. I hope that VSL can switch from Steinberg to their own VSL protection scheme, and not rely on some other company's system.

My VSL keys have just gone past their 2-year "safe" limit and, as usual, I'm considering having to buy 2 more VSL dongles and throw the 2 that are working into the drawer with all the other old keys that I've discarded.

Please VSL....the sooner you get a new protection system the better.

  • I agree, my drawer is loading with 'older than 2 years' eLicensers as well...
