  • confused - Performance Set vs Orchestral Cube

Um, I don't get it. What's the difference between the Perf set and the Orch Cube? Why would one need to buy both? [[:|]]

    Thanks for the input,
    Downbeat

  • Not to do the mod's job [:)], but to give you a quck answer:

The Orchestral Cube is a collection of single note samples along the lines of traditional libraries like Miroslav. There's a lot more though - dynamic controls, different playing styles, etc.

The Performance Cube is more emphasized on samples that involve more than one note. The major one is the legato - you will be able to naturally switch from one note to another with a realistic sounding legato, not the artificial pitch bend or cross-fade that is sometimes employed in synthesizers. Apparently to get a legato you play the primary note normally, then pick the next sample based on what the previous note was. They recorded samples of all the instruments going to/from almost all conceivable notes in their range to do this. Quite a monumentous feat. I can't wait to hear demos!

Mods, which reminds me, it's ok if you don't know yet, but do you know when the demo cube will be released? You'd mentioned November I think. I'm waiting with baited breath. Also I live in the U.S. - I hope it won't take very long to get here!

  • As Paul said:
"Get all of them as “Orchestral Cube”:

    42.000 Samples, 35 GB, 1890 $

ad 2: Performance Set (for all instruments in the Orchestral Cube, including powerful Midi-Processors):

    36.000 Samples, 26 GB, 1490$

Combine the “Orchestral Cube” with the “Performance Set”, you get:
    78.000 Samples, 61 GB for 3090$ "

So, I don't understand why Paul said "ad 2: Performance Set (for all instruments in the Orchestral Cube..." are they the same ?

Also why is there no news concerning the prices on the VSL site ? and it's on the bestservice.de ?

    Thank for your help.

  • It's the same instruments as the Orchestral Set - not the same samples. The samples in the performance set are directed at making multi-note passages, whereas the orchestral set's designed to be just single notes

  • Ooh, no timpani in the first edition [:(] Any chance that could be squeezed in?

    ~ Bob

  • Hmmm...One page on the website says it is, another says it's not.

  • Hi Currie!
You´re right there, we´re just fixing the missing X on the English Product Comparison Page: There will be Timpani in the first edition!! Sorry for that.

And concerning the demo cube: you will get a small version of our midi-performance-tools on the demo-cube, so you can get an impression of how they work and how it feels to play the preformances with them. Right now we´re beta-testing them, as soon as the testing is done, we´ll release the demo cube.

    Best wishes, Paul
