  • Best patch(s) for military snare rolls and hits?

Whats the best patch for the above? Any tips?

I'm talking badass military rolls for say an action score

  • are you asking specifically about VSL or any library?

  • VSL...

At the moment I primarily use the ones in EWQLSO... but im sure VSL has a just as fine counterpart.

I dont have true strike, but i'm considering getting it for the snares alone - although that seems a bit crazy. Im just hoping I dont have to, and that VSL includes a good alternative. Iøm just getting tired of the rather limited EWQLSO one

  • well I don't have the pro edition, but in opus 1 there is a snare ensemble patch that's pretty good. You may be able to layer a couple of those and the solo snare on top of each other to get the effect you want, or maybe just the patch alone would be fine. Realisticly it won't sound as martial as true military drums simply from the actually instrument differnces(size, tuning) and the playing style differences.

unfortunatly I'm at work right now and can't look up the full name for you >.>

should be like SD_ensemble_all or something...

  • I just did a score with military feel in it and the VSL snare rolls worked great on that job. (it was just a mock up for real recording afterwards but still it sounded real. )

And the patch is; Ktr-4_ST which is I suppose Kleine trommel = snare drum.

I prefer VSL to EW because I find the mic-set thing confusing. In VSL you have to do your own reverb'ing and can put them anywhere in the landscape.

  • Hi, just had a look at Opus, and found the Snare_Ensemble patch... exactly what I had in mind. Lovely... Dunno if there is something similar in Pro Ed?
