    Just wondering what the best reverb for strings would be I have wave Ir and realverb I have a mackie card but no dreamverb would appreciate any advice Jeff

    If you are aiming for a realistic simulation, I would prefer convolution reverb (i.e. the Waves IR-1) above any synthetic reverb.

    For pop-music, this may be different, thuogh. In this context, people are mostly heading for that "broad, cosy" unreal Lexicon-esque sound.

    I hope other forum members will chime in with their opinion, too ...

    If it's for pop music, just choose the one YOU like most.
    There might be songs where you'll like to take IR-1 and for others you might like Realverb better.
    People who got UAD-1 Plate Verb are in love with it.

    yes waves IR1 is a wonderfull reverb to have a long sound, but not for stereo image!
    I suggest to use the gigapulse before !
    For exemple, you can make a mix for all strings with GigaPulse, and put the violins at left, etc... , not to have a long reverb, just for a really good stereo placement and good microphones (Neumann M150 for ex ![:)] ).
    After that, you have an audio track with good stereo but any long reverb, and then, you can put the waves IR1 [:D]

    Since you have the Mackie Card (UAD-1), I would suggest downloading the newset version of the software so you can try out the 14 day demo for the Plate 140 Reverb. I bought it two days ago (I own a UAD-1 Studio PAK), and used the demo as much as I could. The thing I like about it, is that you can dial in a wet/dry ratio where you simultaneously have this sense of intimacy and depth with the instrument section. This works great with both strings (I own Opus 1) and things like drums (Drumkit From Hell - Superior, which I also own). It costs $150USD for the Plate 140, but I think that is a fair price given the quality of the plug-in.
