  • Performance tool anomaly

    Hi All

As a new VSL user, I have I have found an anomaly that I can't seem to figure out

When using the performance set (With Perf tool on - in legato mode), I
notice that if I just play a note (say on the legato oboe), the note
will sustain for 5 sec or so - BUT if I play the same note as part of a
phrase the note dies out after about 1.5 secs. Same note same everything
the only difference is whether it is played as a disjointed event or
played as part of a line (one that needs to sustain).

    Any ideas??

    Thanks

    Greg Edmonson

  • Hello Greg,

the starting notes are normal sustains (you find the same wavs in the "long-note" gigs.

All real performance samples (where legato intervalls are played and triggered) are shorter. The reason is simple:
24 variations for each key have to be recorded. A very exhausting process for the musicians. Longer target notes would "kill" them.
Another major aspect is, if the musician have to play very long notes they tend to loose expression.

    best wishes
    Herb

  • Hi Herb

    Thanks for the explanation

Any chance that you could program the legatos to access the long samples when you used the sustain pedal.

Kind of a best of both worlds solution ---control over notes that end too early--but no ill effect on the wonderful legato that precedes those notes.
