    Hi Guys ,

    I'm looking for the best setup to use on Cubase with up to 10 identical computers ( but different composers ) with the same sample library installed on a powerful slave computer, connected to the others with ethernet connection.

    The sample library could be up to 2To, essentially Kontakt instruments, or Spectrasonics Instruments.
    I'd like to use Vienna Ensemble Pro, on each computer, and i don't know if it will run well.

    I know i will probably need to run several VEP instances on the slave computer, but i'm wondering if audio files can be used by these instances at the same time...  

    Anybody know if VEP would work that way ?
    Is there a better software to do that ?
    With Gigabit Ethernet connections, can I use samples without latency, even if several computers are reading the same files ?

    Hi imau, 

    You can only connect to VE PRO from ONE sequencer at a time.

    You can only connect an Instance to a single DAW right?

    One can create multiple instances on the same VEP server and connect them each to a different DAW, correct?

    So, in theory, the 10 users could each have a independent instance running on the Slave VEP server, just not be able to share the same instances concurrently. Obviously, that could be a mess. But maybe that would work?

    I only ask because I thought I stumbled on to it once when I was running Logic on one computer and Cubase on another...but i have no reason to really do that.

    I'd test it again myself, but I just wiped my Macbook Pro yesterday as I am getting ready to sell it. The little voice in my head said...Paul knows all, so just ask him. :)

    EDIT: I was able to test it after all. I had Reaper on another machine. I can see the instances that are not connected to Cubase, but when I try to connect I get an error stating the "Server Connection limit has been reached." So, there is an internal setting that stops the connection.

    Hi, 

    I'm afraid you got that wrong.  You can only connect to 1 VE PRO SERVER from 1 DAW.

    Right. I figured that out. See my EDIT: ...

    There must be a parameter that that VEP Server is setting to limit the connections to one? Is there any technical reason to limit it to just one connection to the server? Once an instance is connected, it becomes invisable to my second DAW, so there is no chance of connecting multiple DAWs to the same instance.

    Hi, 

    Each instance can only be connected once. When it is already connected, it is not available in the list of available instances. 

    Connection limit is 1 DAW, for many reasons.

    But couldn't i open several instances on the slave computer to connect several masters ?

    And if i can't, i don't understand well the reason of this limitation.

    Hi imau, 

    You can only connect to 1 VE PRO Server from 1 DAW at the same instance. 

    It is NOT possible to connect to separate instances from different master computers. 

    Only the license taker (1 person) has purchased a license to use our products.

    not to mention all the EULAs you'd be violating of the 3rd party sample libraries - what you want to achieve is have 10 DAWs all have access to one set of licensed sample libraries on the VEPro machine. so avoiding buying the 9 other licenses you would otherwise normally have to buy if you wanted to run 10 DAWs simultaneously.

    It's pretty obvious why VSL have disabled the ability to do this.
