  • Sibelius/Vienna Percussion Parts Set Up

I am using Vienna Symphonic Library Special Edition and Sibelius 7.1.3.  I am new to Vienna, so there has been a learning curve, but I am starting to get things set up like I want them.

I am having problems with percussion instruments.  I added a second Vienna Ensemble file specifically for my percussion instruments.  After some wrangling, I have the mallets playing nicely with the winds in the full score.  When I add a bass drum, however, I get a lovely bass drum part, BUT various snare drum sounds are added to mallet instrument parts (for instance, the xylophone part will be a combination of xylophone and snare rolls on every note).  I'm sure there is an easy fix, but I have been unable to locate one on the forum or in the manuals.

  • Hello Bigtotsky!

This problem can have different reasons. Maybe you didn't reserve enough channels for the Percussion on the Manual sound sets page or have a wrong instrument in your score. Or maybe the channel numbers in Vienna Ensemble are wrong. Additional help can be found in the Troubleshooting chapter of the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual. In particular the points "Instruments switch wrongly or don’t switch at all (2)", "Percussion instruments switch wrongly or are mixed up (1)" and "...(2)" might help.
