  • Cubase 9 + VE Pro 6 --> Midi track to Audio track

Dear Cubase & VE Pro users,

This is a copy of a thread i started on Steinberg's forums. I really need this sorted out, so writing here may double my chances of solving my issue.

I am currently building a template using Vienna Ensemble Pro 6. I am coming across an issue i cannot seem to resolve. Perhaps someone with a similar setup can help me...

I currently have a template with about 300 (planning for more) instruments loaded into Vienna Ensemble Pro. As a result, i have 300 midi tracks in Cubase. Unfortunately, i cannot export the midi tracks into an audio file. The only way i found was to create Group channels, and then be able to export them separately.

But, what i do need, is an audio track for each midi track. Very much like Junkie XL's setup. Though he said he was going to go in depth in a future video, but never did, regarding what he calls "vst returns". This is what i am currently doing here:

"VSL Flutes Legato" OUTPUT 1/2 in VE ---> Midi track in Cubase with the OUTPUT 1/2 from VE to a group channel in Cubase called "VSL Flutes Legato"

"VSL Flutes Stac" OUTPUT 3/4 in VE ---> Midi track in Cubase with the OUTPUT 3/4 from VE to a group channel in Cubase called "VSL Flutes Stac"

etc, for all instruments and all tracks.

But doing this, i am limited to 256 group tracks. So i am stuck here.

Is there a way to have a midi track with an audio track playing its signal ? So i can audio export every articulation of my samples and add individual effect & EQ to them.

I hope i was comprehensive enough. Any clues ?

    Warm regards,
    Aleksi.

  • Very good question! Sadly I can't provide an answer as I do have the same problem. I reduced the number of outputs in VSL Ensemble to a couple per instance though.
