  • "slur" legato

I have a question. What does the perf-legato-slur mean, in the Orchestral Strings? Is that a fingered legato, as opposed to a bowed legato? It sounds to me ears like a quick portamento at times.

    Thanks for any clarification.

  • It is a legato with a light portamento transition (slur) in it, so the notes blend more together.

It is useful, in particular, for very fast runs. There is also a fast version (perf-legato-slur_fa) of it.

There is another thread about it, but I cannot remember. Try and search the forum for further explanation.

Thank you. So there is no way to distinguish bowed from fingered legato in the VSL then. 😞

  • I do not know so much about these technical things in general (fingerd vs bowed), so I cannot answer this properly.

But if you want a bowed ( = more detached?) legato, why not combine/blend the standard one with a detaché, for example, via SlotXFade.

  • Fingered legato means within the same bowstroke, bowed legato means connecting the notes but changing the bow at the same time.

Your suggestion is a good one. :-)

  • Thanks. :) And you are welcome.

  • I have not so much experience with sample libraries, I started with VSL last year. But one of the best reasons of having VSL is the fact that you can actually program (the behaviour of) your individual instruments with VI/VI Pro. You can control and assign everything. No other library can make this possible, I think.
