How is their playback doing?

Articulations?
Does it play nice, or is there a long way to go?

It doesn't look like they've added anything that helps out VSL mockups.
From what I read, they don't even have editable velocity control yet, let alone Rewire or Cubase integration.
No need of Cubase, except if you want to add recorded voices.
If it is the case, you do all your music in Dorico, export it to Cubase to add the voices.
Voices? You don't think people record many other things they would like to have integrated with a score?
What about dedicated hardware for Cubase? Video for film scoring?
Dorico doesn't even record MIDI performances.
There's a lot missing without being able to run a host DAW.

You are right about film scoring, I forgot about it 😞
What hardware are you speaking of ?
Log on Dorico's forum and add your requests
As I am a very bad kbd player I compose with the mouse !

Steinberg CC121 controller. It does transport controls, EQ, motorized fader, VST controls etc.
Also, Dorico doesn't even have drum notation yet. Um, welcome to the 20th century?
Dorico has some really nice features to help layouts look nicer, but the more I read about it, the more I think the product wasn't ready to come out of the oven.
I have dowloaded 1.1 and HSO 3 and I will start exprimenting it with a new piece hoppefully today
I have wrote the melody in Logic and I am going to add the orchestration in Dorico
Good luck and let us know how it goes!
The only thing I know is that you can use VSL Cubase Expression Maps in Dorico
VSL Expression Maps.....😮.

I know in Cubase 9, the articulation map window is a small windows on the bottom of the Key Editor. Every, single, time you switch instruments have to resize it to make it more managable. I find it really tedious to work with Cubase Expression Map.
Dorico is developing well.
Its 'feel' and workflow are very well thought out; it's well-supported and pretty solid.
There is also a new initiative to build and share VSL Expression maps for Dorico.
Andy, anything you can share yet about VSL support for Dorico, please?
Andi - thanks!
That's very encouraging :-)
Do you have simple instructions for basic integration between Dorico (1.1) and VSL instruments, please?
Hello Mark!
In general our instruments can be used with Dorico. We have a few requests for the Dorico team though, before we will offer Expression Maps. I don't know about their timetable and when they will get to work on these requests.
Best regards,
Andi
Any chance you could share what that would be?
Of course; thanks, Andi!
Hi Mark!
Vienna Ensemble can be loaded like any other VST-Instrument in Dorico. So please look at the Dorico manual or ask the Dorico team on how to integrate VST-instruments.
Best,
Andi
