  • Help! Upgrading Special Edition Orchestral Strings

    Hi everyone,

the current sales offer for Orchestral Strings is really tempting, but I am indecisive whether to upgrade from the Special Edition 1 (without plus) or not.

I searched the forum and did some googling, but I cannot find convincing results. So I am asking again. :)

I could buy SE 1 plus for the additional articulations, which I definitely need, but what is the main difference between the special edition and the full version? Apart from the sampling (semi-tones vs. whole tones)? Is there more to say? Is the sound "better"?

Looking forward to hearing from you guys. I am quite frustated... I really need some good (convincing) information.

    Thanks,
    Sascha

    Hi Sascha,

The only difference is whole-tone / half-tone mapping, the samples are identical.

If you find that you are using the Orchestral Strings a lot, there are of course a crazy amount of additional articulations to be found in the bigger VI Collections.

Hope that makes your decision easier!

    Paul

  • Thanks for your reply.

In the end, I decided to buy the (standard) full version in order to be able to have more articulations in the future when upgrading.

  • Hi Pixelpoet,

    That's a clever choice.

I have also just sent you free demo licenses that unlock the FULL Library for Orchestral Strings I&II.

With the current special offer on Extended Libraries (which ends today!!), you should definitely consider purchasing now, if the budget is available and you are planning to upgrade anyway, at some point.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hello Paul,

thank you very much. I just wondered why I got that confusing email. :)

It is a pity that there is no test function on extended libraries like for the software products. Was this a gift from you or can one ask for such demo licenses?

Unfortunately, I do not have the budget, but I will definitely upgrade in the future. AND because I do not know what the next offer is about.

    Have a nice weekend.

    Best,
    Sascha

  • Hi,

    Sorry if that caused confusion!

With the bigger collections, you can always request a demo license for the Extended Libraries, as you already download the FULL Library to your harddrive.

Anyway, check out what's in the Extended Library for you.

Personally, I love the fast legatos and performance trills just as much as the many runs.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Don't worry about that!

I am checking it out right now. :) A good project for the weekend.

The performance trills are great. But I am quite happy with my "own" trills when played in monophonic legato mode. Although, I prefer the polyphonic one. It is a pity that it does not work then.

I started to create my own, quite complex, strings legato performance matrix with speed and velocity dependencies. Okay, I have to admit that I try to imitate a competitve product, but with VI Pro everything is possible. And I love it! It's so much fun (and time-consuming). Especially the legato "slur" patches at fastest speed are marvellous to have.
